Perfect for Drama-loving (older) Middle Schoolers!
I teach 7-12 ELA in a small school and am struggling to get my 8th-grade class interested in reading. They were assigned an independent book, and I chose this one for one particular reader. I was a little nervous getting this book, but I have a reluctant reader (8th grade) who loves drama. She requested a book about drama, so I delivered! And I am glad I did!Let me emphasize by saying this girl HATES reading, she has limited attention span and is from a household where English is not spoken often. She never had much practice with reading. After seeing this book on a list for young readers, I was reluctant to give it a go... I mean, it was dealing with some serious issues. After debating for a while, I ordered it. The library didn't have it. Boy, I am happy I chose this one! She FLEW through this book and now requested a book for the library from the same author! We had discussions as she was reading and she was well aware of the themes of suicide, depression, bullying, etc. She loved that she was reading through such mature ideas and scenes. See, she always tests at such a low reading level... so she was always reading books at her level that did not address such serious themes. I think she felt as though she was watching a dramatic Netflix show. This book was able to keep her attention and keep her on edge. It had so many twists and turns of drama and emotion that she was updating me every day on what happened. Even volunteering in class just to give an update. In group work, students were most interested in her book. The student proudly gave her report today on the book and the main themes. She got it! I am ecstatic that she finally got into a book, and now wants another one! As a teacher, I am forever grateful I chose this book and it allowed a student to become involved in reading and it allowed her to finally understand complex themes and ideas. She could even give an in-depth analysis of character development. I couldn't do that with recommended reading, but I could with this one! Differentiation at it's best!I will say that I would not recommend this book to just any middle schooler... there are some mature themes involved and it gets... gritty. Even bloody. Much better for high schoolers! But if you do have a student who loves drama, a fast-paced plot and can handle some of the mature themes (attempted suicide, bullying, etc) this is a great read!

Spoiler ALERT warning!
Well I preordered this book and it shipped extremely fast. I read this book in 1 day, the same day I got it. I really liked this book and its characters. But this is NOT an original book. If you want to see this book you should watch "Cyberbully" movie, it's insanely the SAME drama and story. The insecure girl that's bullied and her "best friend" creates this fake account about a cute boy to make her fall in love and then hurts her by making her attempt a suicide. It's practically the same except that the book involves more characters into the drama like their families. If you've seen this movie before reading the book you'll find it very PREDICTABLE cause it is really the same if you don't want to spend the money on this book just watch the movie and you'll have an idea. Overall, personally liked the book cause I really liked the movie too, and I enjoy to watch/read this type of movies and/or books, but it lacks from originality since there is alredy a movie based on this book. I don't know if the author just copied the idea or is the book and the movie are related? or if it just coincidence but that's why I give it 4 stars, I expected something new and different since this book came ouy in May and the movie is older.

Excellent
Backlash is amazing. Littman is an excellent author with a talent for writing from multiple perspectives while still maintaining a focused plot. The bullying is horrible and surprising (you'll see why). Littman delicately handles the issue of bullying, showing the truth of its ugly face and how responsibility comes with it. It's hard to say much more without giving things away, but I can say that I enjoyed the characters; they were well developed and all of them play an important role in Lara's situation. I also appreciate seeing the character growth. As a bonus, we have Sydney, Lara's younger sister--everyone needs a friend like Sydney. The one fault I found was Liam's perspective: his POV sounded like Lara's sister; I couldn't tell it was a boy, so a more clear distinction in voice would be helpful. But the novel more than makes up for that small flaw by not downplaying this serious issue and threading the actions through a moral code.

Great read!
My daughter was reading this in school and it seemed interesting, so I downloaded it. While it deals with what some may consider uncomfortable topics (suicide and cyber bullying), it does so well. I think it’s a great read for all teens. It shows that all actions have consequences. It also tells the story from multiple teens POV so you see how the actions effect all.

Sadly, too real
I am a teacher in a middle school, and one of my students was reading this book (when she was supposed to be working on an assignment). I took it and promised I would give it back at the end of class. Since I'm a reading intervention teacher I couldn't resist reading the synopsis on the back cover. I was hooked instantly. I read it in one night. This story is straight from the headlines, sadly. Great book.

Excellent!
This is an excellent book that I think not only young adults could take something from, but adults as well. Backlash is the perfect title! Please see my complete non spoiler review on my YouTube channel which is under my name. I felt so strongly about the subject that I put a suicide prevention phone number in the description & comment section on my YT review.

Thought provoking and engaging read
This was an easy read with 4 POV. It delves into the obvious/common awareness-raising about being too social-media dependent but also has a lot about coping, friendship, siblings/family dynamics, etc.

I finished this book in a day-it was very gripping and thought provoking. Littman has done a good job putting forth the consequences of our actions –especially when we act without thinking. This is a book which will make you wonder how cruel and bitchy a friend can be,I don’t want to give away any spoilers but the review will be incomplete with at least one. The book is told from the POV of four characters. Lara, being the protagonist. Her younger sister Sydney. Lara’s former best friend Bree and her brother Liam. It’s refreshing to read different POVs because everybody has their own story and own problem to voice. All four teens are going through the same problems…similar, at least. Difficult parents-people who barely get them-and so on. But the way they deal with it all is completely different from one another.I`m giving a lot away, but you must know this is a good quick read and is related to cyber bullying. The last five or so chapters is mentioned consistently what one mistake can do.The author has made it clear –how real life and life online can collide and a massive impact it can have on not only one, but many lives. It was a depressing read…not very, but it was but along with that it was an eye opener on how to pay close attention to those around you and how much you can hurt them by simply being self absorbed.I don’t know why going to a therapist is considered as a bad thing…it equal to talking to a normal person about how you feel and what you think. Cyber bullying on the other hand is rapidly increasing and books like these can be good wake up calls for those who thinking posting about anything and everything is a matter of life and death and that “number of Likes” for a picture really matter more than what or rather who is in the picture.

Bullying
I very much enjoyed this story. Too many times nowadays people are bullied on social media. People hide behind the computer or tablet or phone and feel like it's okay to tear others down. It is so important to remind ourselves and our kids that this is not okay. Also to remind us that there are people we can talk to and help us. Bullying is NEVER okay. It is a subject we should keep at the forefront of our discussions with our children.

It was a great book. It was true
It was a great book. It was true. The stuff written in the book really happens to teenagers. Cyber bullying is a real big problem and this book made me aware about it.
