The Travel Umbrella is made of reinforced fiberglass plastic which defends it against inverting and breaking. We had to be very selective in choosing the materials for this variant since it was designed to be compact and light-weight compared to our other products. It only weighs under a pound and is less than 12 inches long, comes with water-repellent fabric, and can fights off winds up to 45 mph. Finally, our umbrellas come with a lifetime warranty. The Golf Umbrella mentions a UV protection of spf 50 on the Weatherman website. I suggest that the shopper research the particular Weatherman umbrella they are interested in buying, on their website. And then return to Amazon and complete the purchase of the one that meets their needs.

Q: How long is the shaft on the travel umbrella when it’s opened? I’m worried I will have to hold it up near my chin.

Dear N. Dorbitt: Since this umbrella is "compact" the shaft is not very long. I would estimate it is about two feet in length, but you will not have to hold it that close obviously due to the space of your arm when it is bent. Only if you use it on a windy day is when it is difficult to hold it away from you. I hope this answer helps you to decide whether you wish to purchase it or not.

Q: Is this made in the united states

They do not seem to have a "Made in..." statement anywhere on the packaging. However, I emailed the company and they told me that the umbrellas are made in China. Meh.
