Great Fun and Insights for Readers of the Expanse Series
This is a lot of fun. Back stories and side stories from the Expanse series of books. I was bummed to reach the end. Every story was entertaining and reminded me of how much I enjoyed the Expanse series itself. That said, these stories do not stand on their own. They depend on familiarity with the Expanse books, not necessarily all nine of the books, but at least with the main characters and plot line. In order: - Drive explores the backstory of the Epstein Drive technology used by the spaceships of the Expanse, and the drive’s inventor, Solomon Epstein. - The Butcher of Anderson Station provides the backstory for Fred Johnson and the intrigues behind the massacre of Anderson Station. Those intrigues will give you insights into the ambiguities in the Expanses’s Fred Johnson character. - Gods of Risk focuses in on Bobbie Draper and her nephew, David Draper, especially on Bobbie’s coming to terms with her defining experience on Ganymede. - The Churn may be my favorite of the stories here. It tells a kind of origin story of Amos Burton in Baltimore. It may be the most stand-alone of the stories, entertaining even if you know nothing of the Expanse. - The Vital Abyss gives new insight into the early days of humanity’s encounter with the protomolecule up through the experiment on Eros. It is accordingly also the backstory of Dr. Paolo Cortazar. - Strange Dogs is the backstory for Cara and Xan Bisset, and for Laconia and the other new worlds opened by the Gate. - Auberon tells about the first days of Laconian rule over the colony on Auberon, and also gives us a side-story about Erich, from Amos’s days in Baltimore. The authors describe this as their “crime story.” It dips into the intersection between Erich’s criminal operations on Auberon and the Laconian Empire, with some provocative consequences for the relationship between government and indigenous crime. - Filip is more a forward-story than a backstory. What happened to Marco Inaros’s (and Naomi Nagata’s) son Filip once he left the main thread of the Expanse? How did he deal with his father’s legacy and the tensions between his father’s and mother’s lives? All great stuff for Expanse readers. And each story has a short note by the authors, telling something about the writing of the story and its context within the writing of the Expanse series. I’d give this five stars if I were reviewing it only for readers of the Expanse, but I’ll give it four just as a recognition that you really have to be an Expanse reader to appreciate and enjoy it to its max.

Still good
The writing is still good and the stories still worthwhile. A fitting finale to the Expanse series with some additional points. Enjoy.

A good supplemental stories for fans of The Expanse novels
Good background and origin short stories of some of the major as well as secondary characters from The Expanse novels and TV show. I got the audiobook version of a couple of the stories, but it's nice that all of them were compiled into a single book. A must-have for fans of The Expanse.

Muito bom! Aprofunda a história de vários personagens! Mais um pouquinho do universo the The Expanse para quem ficou órfão ao terminar de ler todos os livros principais!

Missing The Expanse after the 9th book? Buy this. Every story dives into the nook and cranny which you might have thought about during your reading of the series.

This completed the series and I am very happy to get it. If you need to be convinced to buy these books, please look for some other books. If you already like the series, why am I preaching to the choir?
