MOOG Theremini - Theremin with Pitch Correction, CV Out, Built-in Tuner and Speaker, Animoog Synthesizer Sound Engine with 32 Presets and LCD Screen

I was so worried when these sold out after a character on the show Severance played one. After having this in my wishlist for years I finally bought it when it came back in stock. It’s perfect for learning how theremins work and how to play. Other theremins will need an amplifier or speaker that meets the frequency range. This lets you practice your hand movements and has a ton of fun settings for different effects. It’s expensive but theremins are. Even one you build yourself without a speaker is close to $200. It also runs the risk your bank account might get flagged as fraudulent so the bank freezes your account. So you have no access to your checking account or savings account. Then the bank gives you vague information for two weeks and you see terrifying stories online about people who had to wait months to get their money back. Then 3 weeks later a check comes in the mail for slightly less than what you thought was in your account but you’ll never know because you haven’t had access to your online account since they froze your account. Better safe than sorry. It’s about convenience really.

This one works! Definitely a lot of fun, slowly getting the hang of it. Would be great for someone with real musical experience and talent. But a lot of fun regardless! Quality product.

My adult grandson loves this gift. So many presets and modes. Well built, not a toy. I hope he becomes an accomplished thereminist and can support me in a few years.

Really fun, but really serious musical instrument.

Was very fun to play till the pitch went crazy and stopped functioning. Unfortunately, the customer service out of Moog is not very good. They dont sell parts, forcing you to ship it back for a little pcb that just plugs in and they charge $75 per 30 minutes with their repair rep saying it is usually about an hour. So full shipping costs, $150 for the repair and out of service for up to 2 months all for a small pcb that could easily be replaced. For a $400 piece of plastic it just wasnt worth it. Went into the garbage.

I'm not a musician, although I've played an instrument or two. I simply have been enchanted by the concept of controlling sound by hand position in the air. I tried a small kit version and enjoyed it, but the sound quality and control sensitivity and limits were naturally disappointing. I just don't have the time and all to try building one of my own, and I couldn't find anything that seemed to have sufficient quality for a low price. There were some models much less expensive than the Theremini, but they appeared to be basic models, if not minimal. I finally decided to go for it, and I am happy I did, so far. I have not been concerned about tuning, I'm just enjoying all the preset effects, playing around with them without trying to play any tunes.To me, playing regular music on a Theremin seems like using a Ming vase to hold dandelions. Well, that may be a little extreme, but the freedom of control and variety of sound available sets my mind to flights of fancy. Each preset seems to call forth a different style of play, evoking various visions or meditative states of mind; the sounds dictate movements which control the sounds which lead to new variations.So, I don't know about the technical aspects or the quality needed for performance art, it's just a great personal experience for me, and I don't think the lesser options would have been so satisfying.

I've started live performances again, and the PAIA kit theremin I built a quarter decade ago wasn't up to snuff when I pulled it out of the mothballs. So I got this, and I"m glad I did. I thought "I know how to play a Theremin!" and figured I wouldn't use the pitch correction. I was wrong. Turned up about a quarter of the way, it's a good "cheat" as I get my intonation back. Turned up ALL the way, then it's almost synth-like. Some of the many presets are useless, but several are awesome for an old Theremin fan like myself. Well designed, the "digital" part of it is incredibly well implemented, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who knows what a Theremin is and who can afford it. It isn't cheap, but it's a bargain in my opinion.

The volume control antena is basically useless. Have done all the troubleshooting and checked online and ut seems everyone is having the same issue and opinion. Will be returning it. For so much money You'd think it would be a fixed issues. Rather have functionality over style.
