Hiroyuki TakeiNekogahara: Stray Cat Samurai 1

From the guy who brought the Shonen Jump hit Shaman King comes this cat filled journey through Japan in a classic Jidai Geki style of story. The art style is much less clean than what I was used to from reading Shaman King back in the day but I think it helps the slightly more feral feel of this series. When your 'hero' is addicted to catnip to hold off nightmares that cause him insomnia so great it can cause him to be invisible while awake unless you're looking right at him..yeah it's not rainbows here. I love classic samurai period dramas and this has the feel of one just with cats taking the center stage, if you like either of those things this is a good manga to pick up for your collection.

A samurai tale where are the characters are cats. A Ronin warrior who has lost his master wanders the countryside. The bell on his Katana sword signifies that he was a "Kept Cat," owned and fed by humans. The usual samurai battles with bullies but with cats. It works, but the art is sketchy in my opinion. Hard to tell what is going on. But it may be to avoid too much bloody gore. Gory enough anyway as samurai battles go. I like it!

Great read, not at all like Takei's most-famous series SHAMAN KING. This is far more mature, darker and grittier. Very much looking forward to the next volume.

I give it a three mostly due to the art. The plot is awesome, but the art sometime makes it hard to figure out whats going on

I got this for a birthday gift for someone and They just opened the gift and the pages are wrinkled inside and coming off. Very very disappointing.

I like that the book arrived very quickly! I disliked that it was listed as NEW but came with gum/glue from a tag on the backside and a stain and gum/glue on the front side.

I saw this manga reviewed in OTAKU USA and figured I would give it a read. Well worth the money I spent! I can't wait for more.

Dopo aver ammirato per tanto tempo le tavole disponibili su google in lingua incomprensibile, finalmente ho potuto leggere il nuovo manga di Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King) grazie all'edizione americana.Nekogahara è la storia di un gatto samurai fiero di essere un ronin in un Giappone Feudale dove tutti sembrano non vedere l'ora di perdere la propria libertà in cambio dell'apparente sicurezza che un Signore offre loro. La storia mescola il tono filosofico tipico dell'opera più famosa del maestro Takei, Shaman King, ad un approccio inedito all'azione molto violenta e sanguinolenta, che ben si sposa con la figura del samurai raccontata. La trama generale non si è ancora schiusa del tutto, ma si lascia intravedere in questo primo volume: veniamo a sapere che il protagonista sta viaggiando verso il luogo della "sua morte" e che è un reduce di una delle guerre civili più sanguinose del Giappone (quella che dà il nome al manga, "Nekogahara" e che è un gioco di parole tra la parola Neko, che significa Gatto, e Sekigahara, il nome del luogo dove avvenne la battaglia decisiva della reale guerra civile). Lo stile grafico di Takei raggiunge nuove vette, mescola il suo tipico tratto spigoloso a forte influenze dall'arte monocromatica ad inchiostro giapponese attraverso cui macchia e riempie di pennellate la tavola. A volte non è chiaro di primo impatto cosa accada nelle scene più concitate, ma le pagine trasudano così tanto "stile" che ci si passa tranquillamente sopra e si sostituisce il senso di confusione al "gaso" puro per i disegni e le onomatopee che praticamente bucano le tavole.Secondo me assolutamente da provare, soprattutto se si è stati fan di Shaman King. L'edizione americana è ottima, il formato è molto grande, raggiunge le dimensioni della nostra edizione "Perfect Edition" italiana (14,5x21) di Shaman King e non le sfigura per niente accanto. La rilegatura tiene molto bene le pagine ma soprattutto è "morbida", il volume si sfoglia tranquillamente senza alcuna fatica. Le prime pagine sono anche a splendidamente a colori su carta patinata.

Wer auf der Suche nach etwas neuem und einer verrückten Story ist, wird hierbei Gefallen finden.Die englische Übersetzung scheint gelungen zu sein, das Leseverständnis passte zu den Bilder. Außerdem gab es einen kleinen Teil mit Erläuterungen zu den Übersetzungen am Ende des Mangas.Ich würde sagen, lasst euch drauf ein. Splatter, Humor, Aktion und ein sehr seltsames Kätzchen erwarten euch
