This has not been effective for ants. They will avoid the area, or simply walk over it in a week. What other insecticide works better for ants?

One of the things the seller was trying to get at is the forager ants go out, gather food and bring it back to the colony, and also if they find a good source of food (or ant bait they like), they tell other forager ants and they gather as much of it as possible. If this is a gel/bait/poison and they take it back in massive amounts to the colony, they store it as food and that kills the ants and colony, but the kicker is the queen ant is busy laying more and more eggs, and if they bring this back and the queen is killed, then the chances of the entire colony being knocked out is massively increased. You don't want to kill the ants you see, they are forager ants and they are the delivery system that take the poison/gel back to the colony. I first used a gel in about 2010 when we had ants in the bathroom. I'd never used a gel and I put it out by the sink and saw little action after a few hours, checked again as I was going to bed with a small increase in activity, but I woke up when our infant woke us up to feed and glanced into the bathroom and the line of forager ants was so thick it looked like someone had drawn a black line with a magic marker from the bait to a little hole leading to the colony. The next day I checked and the amount of bait was visibly reduced and there were several dead ants in the bait container, and about 1/8 the amount of ants I saw the night before. By that night the number of forager ants were very small and the next day, the rest of the fall, and all winter I never saw another ant in the bathroom so it seems to have taken out the entire nest in <48 hours. That is why I love and prefer slower acting poisons for ants and roaches. You don't just need to kill the bugs you see, but the bugs that you don't back at the colony. With roach killers, you need to also look for one that contains an IGR or Insect Growth Regulator. If you just kill the roaches you see (the adults), the sub-adults will still grow and become sexually active, then start reproducing again. You need the IGR to stop the growth cycle so when the sexually active adults die, there are no more sexually active roaches and then the poison can kill them as they eat the other roach poop or eat the other dead roaches. Many roach poisons are not even really a poison, but rather a type of mold that is toxic to roaches.

Once it's dry it's safe for pets to step on the spot you sprayed on. Use gloves when you mix it and keep pets and kids away from the room you spray in until it's dry. It has little to no odor.
