Great concept, but incomplete R & D.
So wanted to love this gadget, but there just isn't enough sail area. On the fasted time lapse setting (.5s) you get only one useful shot. As others have noted it drops like a stone. You also need to throw it precisely straight up or you may not get the image you're looking for. The advertised photos are somewhat deceptive as you need to be prepared to catch or run as you camera plummets to earth. I plan to experiment with a DIY parachute to see if it helps slow the descent. Camera protection is pretty good and it stood up to a water retrieval from my dog unscathed.Addendum: Following a few weeks of use I would add it really hits the ground hard. Advise to use over water or be very athletic and catch it. Also quite difficult to tighten / loosen the attachment screw, even with wings off. Should ship with an extra long screw with head that clears tower base IMHO. Careful how you store the birdie as I have squeezed it into a bag all connected and the plastic legs tend to have muscle memory and it loses shape.I found that using the 30/6 burst mode far superior to time lapse at .5/s with the bonus that you don't take a hundred pictures of the inside of your dog's mouth (when 1 is enough)

Fun Product that Could Use Improvement...
It's a fun product. However, given the weight of the GoPro Hero 5 black I feel like the Heather should have been wiser or perhaps there should have been parachute attached to the top. It would also be nice if it had some mounting capability for the hero5 session given that it's a significantly lighter product and would get a lot more airtime. I would give this product four and a half stars. The reason I'm giving it 4 is because I thought when I ordered it I was under the impression it would be able to get more airtime. I haven't been able to get results with anything other than film. None of the burst shots good and I can't for the life of me use the voice function plus given the speed of the drop and my phone is totally out of the question. I also feel that I have to be cautious when using it over surfaces like concrete given the velocity of the drop with the weight of the camera. If anyone has any suggestions for better results they'd be appreciated. Will do an updated review in a few weeks wgen I've got more experience.

Pretty cool
Fun but wish it also had a parachute option to slow it down a little more sometimes. But we threw it off at 13 story building and the go Pro and it survived perfectly fine and made an interesting video.

No time to smile before it cracks your skull apart
I bought the Birdie despite all the negative comments here, primarily because there's a lack of alternatives (AER rocket is limited release and they've doubled the price, like I was born yesterday). I should use my intuition once in a while!. Now this thing is relatively cheap and there's good reason for that, it simply doesn't work, at any level. It's awkward to assemble, yes you can click the canopy in within seconds but it'll take you a good minute grinding the ends of your fingers off while trying to get your beloved GoPro securely screwed in. It's even worse disassembling, the fun-factor of throwing the thing does not last long enough to grow new fingers so you can remove the aforementioned screw, but on the bright side your now exposed finger bones might be small enough to un-clip the canopy legs if you forgot to bring a tool that'll do the job without snapping the rest of your fingers off. All this pain you'll most likely leave it assembled, rendering the cheap carry bag useless because if you're tempted to use it to hold the canopy into a vaguely storable form you're Birdie will morph into a Albatross exhaust biscuit. And I haven't even started on the main purpose of this flightless skull buster; if misleading names were illegal this thing would be the first to go. The only "birdie" it resembles is an ostrich, they can't fly either and if one landed on your head it'd most likely kill you. This thing needs to come with a health warning. The birdie's manufacturer suggests you only need throw it 2 metres skywards to start getting great photos .... of what Mr Birdie? The sky? I can get those by lying down! Whoever claims to have "designed" this thing obviously has no aeronautical credentials. As those before have intimated, the downwards velocity is greater than the upwards. You can't throw this thing too high or it'll try destroy your prized camera on the way back down. Even worse, even if you have cat-like reflexes, palms of leather and manage to catch the falling missile you'll be disappointed to discover the only ground-facing photos are those of your feet before launch. The canopy weighs as much as the base, how is that ever going to flip camera side down when it reaches peak height? And you can't throw canopy side up. It makes me angry will all the technology we have today that products such as this are so inept at the purpose they were allegedly designed for. Do yourself a favour and start working on your drone skills.

This is so much fun! It makes taking pictures and videos into a big game for the kids, and it’s helpful when we want a bigger shot of us. My whole family loves it and we have gotten some pretty amazing shots using this!

Ariel selfies
Fun way to bet Ariel selfie. Tough and flexible not a bad device for the price.

Frustrated
The description said it worked with a model it didn't work with but has now been corrected. Unfortunately I bought this as a gift thinking it would work and it doesn't.

It does Everything on the add. Don't expect it to glide down slowly. It falls pretty fast. In fact iThink u can take 1/2 nerf football and attach the camera for the same effect. Pretty costly for what u get. 15.99 would have been a good entry price.

Idee toll, Umsetzung unbefriedigend
