Same report as other customers ... GREAT KNIFE!
The 5-inch Kyu Santoku knife arrived packaged in a clamshell plastic package... an inauspicious introduction at the outset. However, upon exfoliation, the knife revealed itself to be sharp, well-balanced, and weighted just right for my purposes of cutting and slicing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The proportion of handle to blade is well suited for my medium sized hand. The quality of workmanship that went into manufacturing this knife is first rate.I've used it daily since it arrived last week. It makes quick work of small tasks and has been a pleasure to use. The knife has exceeded my expectations so far.I take good care of my knives. I wash them by hand (never in the dishwasher!). I pat them dry with a towel (do not let them sit in the dish rack to air-dry!). And I keep them sharp, putting them to the stone about once a month and steeling them with every third or fourth use. Hopefully, so long as I avoid abusing the 5-inch Kyu Santoku knife, it will continue giving me good service.* * * * *EDIT: 2-1/2 years later. Still my favorite knife. It's been well cared for and shows no signs of age: no knicks, scratches, rust, nor any other discoloration. It keeps its edge decently well, but then again I keep it well honed. It has been one of the best purchases I've made on Amazon.

Absolutely love this knife for cooking!
Amazing do-it-all knife for a very reasonable price. I love Santoku knives for their large blade shape. This one particularly, for the blade remains large all the way to the end, with only a slight curve inwards at the tip to finely chop garlic and what not without lifting the whole blade from the cutting board. This one's the perfect Santoku for me and is super sharp too. Great steel. The weight in your hand is also just great: not too much, not too little. I use it for about everything in the kitchen. One thing I particularly like is that it's perfect for catching the whole of the stuff you've just cut finely, using the flat side of the blade, like a shovel really, and to bring it straight to the pan or recipient. Can't believe this one isn't made in Japan. Love it so much that I offered one to my sister who loves to cook and has a very fine set of quasi professional knives that costs an arm and a leg.

Good knife
I bought this as a gift for my son and he said it is just about the only knife he uses in his kitchen now. He said the knife is comfortable in his hand and that the blade is molded deeply into the handle without the use of bolts. As with any Santuko-style knife, the blade is sharp and remains so for quite a while. These knives are easily sharpened when necessary. (I have found that a sharpener designed for Santuko knives works best because they are honed a bit differently than my other knives.)

Pretty great knife for the price!
Overall this is an excellent knife! It is well constructed and has nice weight and feel to it. The handle does not have the ergonomic grip that some of my other knives have but I feel that allows for more of a variety of handling techniques. Another feature of note is that the blade does not have a sharp edge all the way back but stops a quarter to half inch from the end. This is a nice built in safety feature. I have included a side by side comparison with two of my other knives so you can see differences in handles, blade angles and the knife edge close to the handle

Surprisingly decent knife
The knife comes in a tidy little box thats very well presented, although there is a zip tie in a really awkward place which makes removing the knife from the box quite tricky if you dont wish to deface the knife. The factory edge is not super sharp but this did not bother me as im a chef and have over the years acquired the skill of using whet stones.A Santoku knife is probably the easiest knife to sharpen on a whet stone so this knife makes perfect for people starting out. I was able to get a razor Sharpe edge on mine within just a few mins work on a 1000 grit stone and a few strokes on a strop.

Good Knife
I'm very pleased with the Richardson sheffield knife It's very sharp and easy to keep sharp with a standard knife sharpener, the carbon stainless steel blade is good quality and makes chopping onions and veg very easy, the knife is a little light in weight which would make it ideal for someone if they suffered arthritis in the hands.Overall the quality is good and would recommend for the price. Please click on the “Yes” button below if this review has been helpful thank you.

Excellent Product- Kyu knife
I’m very choosy about the quality of my knifes. This 12.5cm Kyu’ is the second knife in this range I’ve purchased, and I will definitely be buying more. This product in my opinion has been excellently manufactured, and more importantly it’s designed for the comfort & safety of the user. Its well balanced and feels great in the hand (unlike cheaper types with bending blades) nor does the handle become slippery when wet. Looks good as well. I would highly recommend it.

Good quality
The handle was a little small for me. I'm used to it now and it's become my go to knife. Lost it's sharpness a bit quickly but I'll sharpen it using a a whetstone.

Very Good knife advertised incorrectly
I'm new to chopping with knives that cut instead of squash and was looking for a decent quality Santoku but lowish end price wise. This fits the bill. It's not a deal breaker but it's HRC rating is 55 and not 58 as advertised on Amazon. Advertising Inaccuracies are just annoying. Had I known it's possible I would have paid more for a knife with a harder blade as that suits how a Santoku knife is used. It's balance is slightly handle heavy but not uncomfortably so.Overall I'm happy with it as it's certainly a step up from anything I've used before. Also, it is VERY sharp out of the box so I'll have to improve my technique to keep hold of all my digits!
