My new favorite tool?
I've been a Makita fan for a long time. Back to the 9.6V days. While I have a blue LXT impact driver, I've been eying this because it's so small and compact. Every time I go to HD, I have to pick up their display model. I also have a M12 impact and while I really like that tool, and use it alot, it's just not fast for long screws, like deck screws. The M12 will drive a 2-1/2" screw, but takes some time. It's like, "Come'on".So get this one and it's just amazing. If it's not as powerful as my blue model, it's really close. I can't tell the difference. It powers screws in real fast. I am still learning how to use it, as the hyper drive seems to kick in a little late, but that might just be me not understanding the tool.I also traded my son some batteries. He had a couple 1.5 Ah batteries, which for me is perfect for this impact. Makes it as light as it can be, as compact as it can be. He got bigger batteries, but I am happy with the trade.I have nothing but good to say about this, here it was the best price I've ever seen, so happy I got it, and would gladly recommend. If you are on the fence, quite debating and buy it, you won't regret it!

A Revolutionary Advance!
Wow! I was so impressed ten years ago with my first Makita 18V impact driver. But eventually it became very difficult to remove a bit holder because the mechanism holding it was clearly worn out. Considering the reasonable cost of this replacement, and the amount of time it takes to repair tools like this, I went for the new model.In retrospect it was very fortuitous that the old model developed problems. This unit is light years beyond its predecessor. The assist mode is revolutionary. It starts out slowly, and goes to full speed when encountering prolonged resistance. This means you can easily start a long screw, and then tighten it quickly.Trust me this really increases your productivity.Thank you Makita!

Missing one feature
This is the 3rd Makita impact tool I've owned. The first was a 14V version which I thought was the hottest thing since sliced bread. BUT, I had to pull the chuck out to insert a bit - a two hand operation. I decided I needed more power so I upgraded to the 18V version. To my delight it has a push-in chuck. I can put in a bit even with heavy gloves on. I hadn't expected that. Now I get this tool and it's reverted back to the two handed chuck. I'm a bit bummed out. I'm sure it will be a great tool but will miss that one feature which I have used often with the last tool. I'll keep both.

Excellent Impact Driver A++++
I didn't expect this quality for Makita. I bought this as a temporary replacement when my Milwaukee driver is in service for next 3-6 weeks or who knows how long during this pandemic. To my surprise I like this impact driver better than my Milwaukee one. Grip is excellent and with 2AH battery it's well under 3lbs and screws long nails better than my Milwaukee did. I'm having second thoughts about using my Milwaukee now. Great product from Makita, definitely thumbs up.

Surprisingly capable - very light / compact
More than adequately suits the needs of an occasional DIY type like me. Maybe it's because I'm new to impact drivers, but I still cannot believe that a tiny little tool like this can drive screws with such power and ease! Comfortable to handle, great runtime, and really a pleasure to use - I try to find excuses to use it. Maybe that says something. :)For everyday projects and DIY short of driving very large bolts, this little guy should absolutely meet any challenge.Potential drawbacks: you have to pull the collet forward first in order to insert a bit. Not a huge deal, but competing impact drivers offer a little more convenience in that regard.Those with very heavy work in mind may need more torque (have had absolutely no problems myself though!)One more note: if buying directly from Amazon, you may receive this without original packaging. Mine came in a plain cardboard box with no warranty or product registration paperwork. I know it's a tool which is made to be used, but it came slightly scratched and scuffed due to poor packaging. There was no note of "not in original packaging", and to me, "new" means "new". That was slightly irksome.Overall great tool!
