Esschert Design Mushroom Knife with Brush

Great Knife for the price! i have paid double for same basic made in china style knife at mushroom festivals. Yes, the blade is dull, but you do not need a super sharp knife while wandering around the woods stumbling over tree branches in search of mushrooms with a sharp knife in your hand. It is for mushrooms, which are not generally very hard to cut and if you cut them properly to insure good identification, then you want to dig the knife below the base and cut through the dirt which would dull the knife anyway. To sharpen it, use a round sharpener if you want it sharp. i like the round carpet knife style design to be able to get under the mushrooms better, especially for tasty Boletes with the huge base. The brush is great for field cleaning the dirt before you bag em. Slightly stiffer blades would be an improvement, but good price, so 5 stars. If you want cheaper, then buy thrift store kitchen knives and duct tape a cheap inch paint brush on the end.

An good knife for the backwood forager. Bought it for my son who is a an avid mushroom hunter. It works and is not so expensive should you accidentally donate it to the forest.

It's ok, it is not sharp at all, can't cut anything and is very hard to open.

blade not locking it said it was made in France when I looked at the Amazon sit to buy but when I ask to return it some one changed the site and took off the made in France

Used to pick mushrooms in the forest. Worked great. Love the little brush on the end to clean the dirt off.

An excellent knife. Larger, sturdier and more durable than expected from the picture. It cuts well, the ruler seems accurate enough, and the brush is excellent for wiping off not only dirt, but also the odd insect etc eating away at your find. Also well packaged, it would make an excellent gift.

The brush part fell out. Otherwise it's fine. I've fixed it but I really shouldn't have had to.Good enough for the price, though.

The knife looks prettier that expected. It has a very solid feel, the blade looks durable and the wooden scales have both the ruler and logo engraved. Brush is tightly set and its hairs dont come off as I have experienced with other similar knives. Btw it has a lanyard ring.Im in love with this tool and its quality.

Das Messer kam nach der Bestellung sehr schnell bei mir an. Doch nach dem ersten Einsatz ist die Klingenarretierung gebrochen. Was das Messer somit unbrauchbar macht. Die Verarbeitung hat mich im allgemeinen eh nicht so überzeugt. Ich finde es relativ unhandlich und schwer vom Gewicht her. Die Klinge ist sehr dick und nicht wirklich scharf. Normale Küchenmesser (Schälmesser) sind echt besser. Ging daher zurück. Die Reklamation hat echt super funktioniert. Danke dafür.

The knife is adequately sharp, the shape is the most convenient for harvesting mushrooms. Easy to open and close. The wooden handle is made of hardwood, probably olive or some other noble waterproof lumber, very solid and heavy. The brush seems to be too soft but allows to reach and works great: much less soil comes into the basket if the mushroom is brushed. Overall I like it better than Opinel because of a straighter edge and reliable folding mechanism that does not bind due to wood swelling - a common issue with Opinel.
