I've dabbled in yarn crafts for years and hate the skein feeding from the outside so spent time rolling balls up - which I finally understood made the yarn tight and flattened it out. I still didn't think too much about it until I started crocheting and looming for charity. After making some items that came out a bit more worn even when using new (balled) yarn, I did some investigating and made the leap to try one of these yarn winders. Video reviews online helped.WHY did I wait? Opened the box, fastened to my work table, and I was off and making cakes. As long as I paid attention to the yarn feed, the yarn spooled up easily and allowed me in some cases to go even bigger than expected. I didn't appreciate the difference between winded cakes and hand rolled balls until I had both in hand. I really love this, super simple set up and ease of use. The yarn cakes are wonderful for storage and for keeping tension during products.MAKE SURE YOU KEEP CONSTANT TENSION ON YOUR YARN WHILE CAKING. I made the mistake of being too lax with it and the cake would fall apart (100% user error).My only complaint is that the rubber pad that is on the inside of the clamp to avoid marking whatever you attach this winder to came off. The glue and rubber smell horrible if you touch it (goes away easy with washing hands), but I ended up throwing the rubber pad away and using goo be gone to get the glue off.In total, I'm VERY happy with this purchase!

This product really helps make yarn cakes from skeins. It’s super easy to use and attaches to pretty much any countertop. I use it for all of my yarn balls and it makes them more compact and easy to unravel. I don’t use many of the extra items because I already have those same things. However I can see if you didn’t have those items, they would be helpful.

I never write reviews but this little thing is amazing. Took a few to get the right tension and hang of it, but , wow!!! Reduces a 4-5 oz skein of yarn to a compact little bundle. Pics of the 2 layers of wound yarn in a low 40 qt container. Easy to see and access. This is 2 wash baskets that were full and lots of partials!! I always wound my leftovers, but this is so much nicer!!!

I love this little thing! You can add tension on the yarn depending how tight you want your yarn cake!
