Wife Loves It
I purchased this for her as it is one of her resolutions this year. The content is easy to follow and good depth and breadth of information. Good price for what you get. Salamat (that's Thank You in Tagalog!)

Has many problems, but useful
First, the positives: this book has a lot of content and it is definitely able to teach you a lot. As far as I've seen everything in regards to content is correct aside from a few typos. Now, the negatives. The dialogues opening each session sometimes have words that aren't in the "vocabulary list" right below them, and haven't appeared in previous lessons. Sometimes they're not even in the small dictionary in the back. Nevertheless, they are useful and introduce the topic of the chapter. The "manga" drawings are a waste of ink, though: they are very ugly, almost bizarre at times, and sometimes illustrate the dialogue very poorly. They're also not manga at all. Maybe this ink should have been spent instead in marking the stress of words, which is my next negative.Stress in tagalog can't be predicted from the usual spelling, which is why some books -including the previous edition of this book! - add diacritics to help learners understand the right pronunciation. This book even has a chapter on stress which uses said diacritcs, but they're abandoned as soon as lesson 3! What is the point, especially when previous editions had them? This makes it so that if you really want to learn how to pronounce a word, you have to either have a tutor or look on the internet. The way they're used in a few section titles but not the text makes me think this was an error, not a feature, maybe some software error that nobody realized? Still, this makes learning everything much more bothersome. The last negative is the lack of exercises. There are five at most in each section and that is far from enough. Exercises are very important for language learning and I don't think it is fair to burden students with making their own exercises. If you can, buy the second edition, as the second edition is better than the third edition if you're studying by yourself.

En complément
Ouvrage soigné et d'un grand intérêt. Il s'agit principalement d'un manuel de grammaire pour débutant, agrémenté de situations de conversations et d'un corpus de vocabulaire indispensable. J'apprécie les supports audio sur le site de l'éditeur.L'ouvrage convient donc très bien en complément d'un cours général de Tagalog.
