Soroka Russian for Kids (Russian Edition)

Probably a lot of Russian speaking parents have a problem of motivating/sparking interest in the Russian language in the their children. My 6 year old son is interested in the characters in this book because they are of similar age and the book is very colorful, just what kids love. In our case the book is used as a supplement and even though the book assumes that a child does not read/write in Russian in the beginning, we have started using this book once my son learnt those skills. A lot of exercises and games in the book/workbook combo help solidify certain concepts that my son has not yet grasped completely. I also use the workbook to give him an opportunity to write in Russian a little bit (and he does it without complaints because he can also color the pictures). The games let me interact with my child in Russian and bring our conversation from a pure 'academic' setting of a textbook to a sort of playful environment.

This is what I have been searching for! This text is designed for parents or teachers who have a knowledge of Russian to pass that language on to their kids. The entire book, even directions, is in Russian. I love that this book focuses on conversational speaking instead of teaching grammar right off the bat - it teaches in a much more natural learning order through progressively more complex conversations. The lessons are split up into 15 short lessons, so if we average 2 lessons per week it can be done in one academic semester, with plenty of time to reinforce the learned skills as we go along. It does not spend a lot of time on the alphabet before asking kids to read short words, which is the perfect way for kids who understand phonics concepts to learn. It is a paperback book, but high quality printing makes it something we can keep and use over with our younger kids.

The book is written for children whose parents/teachers are fluent in Russian. The book for the teacher is written in Russian, therefore it is not for those parents who don't know any Russian. The book is colorful and easy to follow, NOT boring for kids. Nothing like those awful black and white textbooks we've been stuck for ages. This book is an excellent base for conversational phases, everyday grammar. Everything is presented in a fresh, playful manner. Very happy to have this great Russian language course. Just ordered a second edition.

Soroka 1 is a great textbook that helped my kids to speak a better Russian. After only a month of using Soroka 1, I see a great progress in both of my children ages 7 and 9. We enjoy using it very much and will buy other books in this series.

This is a very good book for beginners. Very colorful and easy to follow. I will recommend this to new learners.

We just received delivery of the Сорока Student Book and Workbook today, and have already had great fun using it with our six year-old. This is a very well planned and presented program that is perfect for the child without any prior knowledge of spoken or written Russian. We eagerly await the release of further books in this series. (Get cracking, Ms. Avery...Our kid is a fast learner and will be ready for Book 2 soon!)

this book is very colorful and simple enough to follow and I think good educational tool. We are still in the process of learning alphabet but soon we will be utilizing the pages and tasks in them. Great addition to my russian lessons

A great textbook for kids to learn Russian!

Io sono madre lingua russa ma per mio errore non ho mai insegnato a mia figlia. Ora che ha 7 anni è difficile anche per me trovare il modo giusto. Ho ordinato più libri che ho già restituito ma questo è quello che serve ai bambini tra 7 e 10 anni alle prime armi con la lingua russa. Semplice, colorato e divertente. Lo consiglio. Ho ordinato oggi anche il quaderno con gli esercizi da abbinare.

This textbook and the workbook are perfectly synchronised. I started to teach my nine-year-old son to read and write in Russian (he has been exposed to Russian speech since birth but not in a consistent way) and found this resource invaluable. (I have since bought textbook/workbook combo No 2 and will buy No 3 as well.) It works perfectly. I am also very happy that there is no joint-up writing, which would be confusing for no good reasons. Highly recommended.

I'm sure this is a great product for younger kids. I'm in my mid-40s. I need to get the teachers manual. However, it is very well written and the presentation is great.
