Duopress Think for Yourself: The Ultimate Guide to Critical Thinking in an Age of Information Overload

Some adults need to read this today, you know what I mean.

This book has some content I’ve really been looking for: it has a thoughtful approach to questions and processing information in an age appropriate and interactive way for my children (middle school aged). It gets 4 stars for that.Here’s what I didn’t like:1) The “profiles of critical thinkers” were terribly disappointing. They don’t really showcase the critical thinking elements of the vignettes and in a couple of scenarios, I’m not sure what the critical thinking element was at all. I understand why some reviewers are leery about this. The book does feel like it has a particular point of view, which should not happen in a book on critical thinking.2) Less important but the formatting is very loud. How loud? Stops just short of sparkles on a tweens diary loud. It’s not a book for first grade so this could be dialed back a few (like 5) notches.In all, given how hard it is to find workbooks in this space, we’ll end up using this, but definitely skipping parts of it. That’s unfortunate. It was a good start and it does seem like someone could really make a home run in this space.
