1940s Fashion: The Definitive Sourcebook (Fashion Sourcebooks) Hardcover – October 14, 2021

every page is an explosion of fashion COLORS GALORE, models, ads, movie stars, glamour shots,...every kind of style of the era. ive seen several bks on different vintage fashion & alot of them r black&white, alot of store ads & some have more written content than i care abt. but this book ids the clothing style, all the actresses of the time famous like ginger rogers & then many you never heard of & probably had bit parts or couple of lesser films, etc.....its just interesting & just enough info for me. great coffee table book. they have other eras also. if u want pictures & thats what i wanted. this is THE book. its over 500 pages. weighs a ton! lol. great for browsing thru. if u love the 40s like i do, u will love this book!

This is a wonderful book part of a series of 3 decade series that are a must for anyone who enjoys any element of fashion history.

I found an earlier copy of this book in an antique shop in CA and after flipping through I fell in love. But they were trying to resell it for an insane price! The only difference is the book cover. The illustrations are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I wish there was more art from some of the major American pattern brands (it seems to lean very heavily French) but I assume it might have something to do with licensing. Regardless, I really appreciate that each section starts with a couple pages of text for historical facts and context but then it’s like 95% fashion illustrations. Perfect!!!

This book is a wonderful starting point for anybody interested in 1940s fashion! For such an inexpensive book the printing quality is great, and as far as I've seen there isn't a single low-quality image (which is sadly somewhat common in fashion books).If I had to have one complaint it would be the "Others" section. 49 pages for Uniforms, Swimwear, Athletic Wear, Bridal, and Lingerie all squished together at the end. But, I'm somebody who really enjoys going out and researching stuff for hours so it isn't that big of a deal to me. But I can see it bothering others.I'd kill for there to be a proper sourcebook on the 50s and 60s like this, something that sadly still doesn't exist. :(

OMGoodness! I was not truly expecting the gem of a reference book that arrived. This fashion text book is just what my vintage loving heart has been looking for! Highly recommended for anyone looking to embrace a 40s vibe or just love fashion history.

Bought it for research. It’s very interesting, and the illustrations are great.

I didn’t dislike anything. This was the most comprehensive book on 40’s fashion I have seen for reasonable price. I wish she would do a 50’s version!

I am so glad this book has been reprinted. Its a wonderful historical fashion source with so many different fashion categories to review (play wear, sports wear, etc.) I highly recommend it!!!
