The power rating is 1000w on the advert, but it says 850w on the box? which is correct? have i been sent the wrong blender?

I do not know where you got 850W power info. Anyway, neither 850W or 1000W is correct. The actual Power is 800W. This fixed, nit variable like some ither brands PS. This gets warmed up pretty quickly, which means its proned to motor burn out. So be careful, keep turning off/on to prevent overheat.
