This model is specifically for alto saxophone. It would not work on clarinet.

Q: Which is best for a complete beginner?

If the student is very small physically (like some 4th graders), then the B3. If they are average size (5th & 6th grade), and can learn to use lip muscles for Embouchure instead of jaw pressure (biting); then the B5 offers many advantages. This works very well with the orange box Rico #2 reed. The B chamber offers a warmer sound and easier response for Band playing.
