Whats better from the xm3 to to the xm4 is it even worth it.

Can you use the noice cancelling without playing music?

The Noise Canceling feature of these Bluetooth® headphones is initially set to automatically turn off after five minutes. You can change the Automatic Power Off setting in the Headphones Connect app from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 3 hours or, if you want Noise Canceling to stay on all the time, just simply tap Do not turn off. Will these work with ps5 or ps4?

I JUST got this headset yesterday and have yet to try connecting it to my PS5 via Bluetooth. However I also bought a "V-MODA BoomPro mic" which plugs into the headphone jack in the headset and then to my control (works with both PS5 and Xbox, tested em both today). If you're okay with using a wire, the mic is way better than the build in microphones on the headset and also has a mute switch a volume nob built in. Costs me $35, but I think it goes to $30 occasionally. Cable is a little long, but tolerable for me for the benefits. The noise-canceling and sound pass-through features work when wired this way too

Will the mic be disabled when I use the 3.5 mm cable?

Hi grae.b, the three WH-1000XM4 voice pickup microphones located on the left earcup work only when connected via Bluetooth. The WH-1000XM4 headphones work fine for phone calls when the audio cable is connected, though, by utilizing the microphone from the smartphone. ~Earl
