The beginning of the end for The Real Ghostbusters
Anybody who has made it this far into the series knows it's generally pretty fantastic for what was probably just there to sell toys. The writing is generally well above average and sometimes is great, and while the animation quality fluctuates and there's the rare stinker it's still a fantastic series. What you may not know if you didn't grow up on the series is that there's some very obvious, blatant retooling of the show later on.The Network was not a fan of the spookier elements, Janine, Peter, Ray, the more complicated plots, the referencing of the occult, or anything that made the show good, really. Janine gets a heavy redesign, and her voice actor is recast so she can sound a lot more feminine. The relaxed and funny Lorenzo Music who voiced Peter was replaced by a Dave Coulier who's trying too hard to sound like Bill Murray and failing. Winston gets a new voice actor too at some point, but that was due to Arsenio Hall being too busy for the show rather than the network snubbing him. They wanted to write Ray out of the show entirely but the writers refused this one and instead he gets redesigned to be skinnier. Egon is the least effected, the network just didn't want him to say too many big words anymore. The network had a lot of ideas about how the show should work. They wanted Slimer to be a main character, evenrually rebrandinf the show as Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters, extending the show by half an hour and giving Slimer the extra running time. Peter was no longer allowed to be mean to Slimer either, their dynamic is completely ruined. Another addition the network forced was the presence of The Junior Ghostbusters, kids who wanted to be Ghostbusters themselves but only had one talent: draining life from the show. Head writer and story editor Micheal J. Straczynski left the show over these changes and thus the quality assurance dropped way down. When the network saw they killed their own show with focus groups and executive meddling, they got him to come back and write some of the best episodes of the show. But a good chunk of these episodes were mostly just mocking what the network had done to ruin it.There are still good episodes on here, and the show rarely becomes unwatchable. Baby Spookums may be the worst thing I've ever watched, but there are still enough good or even great episodes on here to justify buying it. But there's enough bad for it to be the point where it goes from 5 stars to a 4 star series, and it can only go down from here.At least the revival show that came in the 90s was great and the series ended on a high note.

Missing episodes yet again
The DVD release sadly is missing a couple of episodes repeating what happened with Volumes 1 and 2 with both "Victor The Happy Ghost" and "The Two Faces of Slimer" both being missing. Though they are available on the digital version of this release.
