Awesome set!!!!
Our son turned 8 and wanted every Lego set under the sun(that he doesn't have) and so it is hard to decide for him because we say what do you want for your Birthday and every day the answer changes to a new Lego set we have not even heard about before this... That said, he was undecided and we were unsure of what to get. My husband and I went against the City line sets he mentioned because many of them are age 5 or 6 and up and that is just not a challenge for him any longer. He builds a $100 set in an hour and that's that, it's exciting that day and then he rips it apart and does custom builds- every single time. So we said nope, not this time- we will get a challenging one. This set fit the bill perfectly!!! He builds and rebuilds according to the directions and not according to the directions, just adding a little here and there and it is an amazing set! It was slightly smaller than I had imagined it would be when built but this is understandable because the builds with Minecraft are compact-- tight fitting regular 2x2s, 2x4s etc. His exact words about this set just now were "it has endless play". He is a Lego Fanatic and wants to work for Lego someday :) This is a great set. It was the first Minecraft set he has ever gotten. We also got The First Night Minecraft set to go with it when a sale was going on at the Toy store and that was a hit right along with it. I love the simplicity of these bricks and it has made him search through his vast selection of Legos and find more 'regular' bricks to add to the design of this. He is in LOVE with this and I think it is very cool and sparks creativity in a new light for Lego Kids! If you are looking for something different and new that will be a challenge for your future Lego employee- go for a Minecraft set. This one is perfect for a Birthday!!! He got Birthday Money from family and decided to get the Minecraft crafting box with it. That says a lot because he had really wanted things like the Volcano sets and things like that but after getting the Minecraft castle, he just loved these right away.

Just Buy It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This set I got for my birthday and it was awesome! It comes with Steve with a full set of gold armor, 3 skeletons, a sheep and even a horse with an articulated head and tail. You can change it to new models. It has pressure plated spruce doors, and a taiga looking tree with a red apple in it.PROS: Good minifigures, creeper banners, lots of detail, and has connectors to change to new models.CONS: Too much money, skeletons (we already got a bunch of skeletons in previous sets), Missing piece but no big deal, Can't pick up (DO NOT ATTEMPT). Little slit between the doors.Overall this set is great. LEGO did such a good job. You can easily build this set in minecraft. Buy It.

Minecraft is very good line of teaching toys. The Fortress was another great product
Grandson loves this series of things. He has an incredible spacial iq from these type games. This comes very well packaged with all the parts and instructions laid out with extreme precision. A 5 year old boy can work through this on his own, but grandpa involved is lot more fun. These are very good learning toys. Not cheap, but considering the investment in all the development, production and packing, well worth the price. This is a very fine line of products

Lego Minecraft is a hit!
These Minecraft sets have become a huge hit with the grandkids, and this one in particular has become the favorite. Huge and well detailed, it is currently sitting on my eight year old granddaughter's Lego table as she plays with it a bunch. Great set!

Son Loves it but it does have a flaw
Bought this for my 10 year boy and he absoluty loves it. Not to mention it's great to spend some time with your kids putting it together. We spent about 2 hours putting it together (LOL I could have done it in no time since I've been doing massive lego sets since I was 7 with the old books where you put a ton of pieces on and it doesn't tell you which ones. But I let him do most of the work)The only thing I wasn't crazy about is how it all connects together. But that is all easily solved buy 2 big green platforms when you do the final assembly you can put them on there and not have to worry if it will break apart in sections. But that is due to poor lego design. So come on LEGO make sets like the old ones. Solid, well built, and can be moved without falling apart. Also get back to smaller instruction books with multiple pieces on 1 step. For us that grew up in the 80's we had to pay attention bc if you had any pieces left over you missed something so paying attention to detail was something that was gained from playing with legos. Now there is no detail because the instructions have 100+ steps. Really!

Can't go wrong with Lego!
My son is a huge Lego and Minecraft fan. This was a great hit on Christmas morning. All pieces where in the box and took him a few hours to build. He is 8 years old.

One Star
The pieces were to small and there were too many pieces. It's not what I expected.
