Although it does remove a small amount of the blade metal during sharpening it works really well.

Used this to keep everything sharp during a recent 3 week trip to the Adirondack mountains in NY. Before I left I added a small strip of leather to the back with super 77 spray glue, then added a good layer of polishing compound to the mini leather strop that I created. Kept my camp knife razor sharp with just a few strokes of the diamond plates and the strop, despite constant use in and around camp. Great product!

Finally, a compact sharpener that even I can seem to get a decent edge with! I've tried several different style sharpeners from simple to overly complex, and this one seems to work best. A buddy at work told me about it, then brought his in and showed me how well it worked. Bought mine the next day and got similar results as he did, and I'm not particularly proficientwith these sharpeners. You basically just "carve"a few passes into the stick (after a few passes through the carbon blades if necessary) and bam! Sharp knife! Love it. Thanks!

Does a better job than other teardrop-shaped units with the diamond rod at putting a maintenance edge on a small knife. For duller edges or when feeling lazy, both units will have the V-grooved tungsten blades, but those might cause skipping when used. When that happens, the diamond stone surface will repair the error. The flat diamond stone surface requires some skill to maintain a constant angle but it's a small learning curve to put a consistent finish on an edge that wont skip.
