This lens is fantastic for birding. It is compact, well built and the image is clear. It looks and feels like a quality product. With a tripod, I am sure your phone will be able to shoot clear, detailed, stable images (i did not test with a tripod). Attached bird image (juvenile Anna's Hummingbird) was taken using this kit on a iPhone XR WITHOUT a tripod to stabilize the image (20ft+ away). With a tripod or even a monopod, the shakiness would be drastically reduce compared to shooting the image and stabilizing the phone with the lens by hand. The remote clicker for shooting the images worked perfectly and has a nice switch on the side to save battery power. The only suggestion would be make the case slightly longer, such that the zoom lens can fit zipped withe the eye piece attached. I recommend this product if someone is on the fence for using as a monocular. If you intent to use it to attach to your phone, get it with the tripod or be prepared to use a tripod/monopod for capturing clear, detailed images.

I received the Apexel APL-JS28X 28X telephoto lens as a gift from my husband to use on my smartphone for bird watching photos. I know he did his research before purchasing. The telephoto lens was easy to attach to my phone with the metal clip provided. It also came with a nice lens bag, lens cover, fixing ring for a tripod, rubber fender for monocular and cleaning cloth. Due to the 28X telephoto lens, I found that it would be best to have a tripod for a clear picture since it is hard to keep the phone still with the magnification. What is nice is that the telephoto lens also came with Bluetooth Remote Shutter for when the smartphone is on the tripod, with the telephoto lens to eliminate shake, to ensure a clear photo. I also attached the telephoto lens to my tablet for a larger view of the frame. It worked wonderfully. Without currently having a tripod (to purchase separately) I was able to take photos and video of objects with much larger view of the subject matter with my tablet. Since my tablet is thin, I also used a small piece of vinyl (faux leather) to keep the metal clip snug against the front of the tablet. It is a great, easy to use, telephoto lens for either a smartphone or tablet.

Great 28x lens. Well built metal chassis and powder coat finish. Nice feel. Light enough but feels like quality. It was larger than I anticipated which is a positive if I’m using this as a monocular since I have big hands. The package contains lens, remote control, clamp mount and lens covers. It’s great to see that a protective padded case is also included to prevent the unit getting knocked - particularly important where glass is concerned (the lens being glass). Also included, which I later found at the bottom of the box is a microfibre cloth for cleaning the lens to ensure a crisp clear image. Lenses also have removable caps to protect them when the lens isn't in use. The clamp mount is solid and allow you to fit easily to your device. I used an iPhone 5c which is admittedly old and quite small though besides a little bit of leverage expected due to the weight in comparison to the phone, it held well. The picture through eye or camera when focused is very clear and vivid - more so than I expected. Whilst it is essentially enlarging the pixels of an HD image (if used with an HD screen of course), there’s more than enough resolution to render a very nice image - and one that otherwise wouldn’t have been captured by the human eye. Very pleased! I’ll be using this in lens in the summer when I’m out amongst nature.

After trying every possible way to connect this setup to line up properly with my phone, I have to say that this adapter is a complete FAILURE and a nightmare for me. While shooting it slid down and off the phone even though I removed my case it would not stay in the proper mount to even play with the focus. The rubber rubbed off and onto my iPhone screen and seemed to serve no real purpose. The design of this adapter is very flawed because of the Angled top which adds to the frustration of getting this device to mount properly enough to line up with either camera lens of my iPhone 12. I tried putting silicone under it to maybe create some stability that didn’t work. It ROCKS even when tighten to its fullest. I’m extremely disappointed with this adapter. The lens didn’t have chance to be properly reviewed because without a good adapter the lens is USELESS. UPDATE after constantly trying every way to get this lense to stay on my iPHone12, I succeeded but the quality of the photos was a GREAT disappointment. They were never clear and you can’t adjust focus for detail. For some reason my lense had spots in it when trying to do a close up of a flower or a water feature video. Not satisfied with this purchase and considering sending it back because it just isn’t as good as some of it’s competitors that are cheaper in price range.
