Gustav Stresemann: Weimar's Greatest Statesman Paperback – Illustrated, 18 Nov. 2004

I purchased this book for my brother in law who has a doctorate in German and politics. It is an excellent book which arrived promptly. Thank you.

This is an impressive book. Im blown away by its level of detail. But be warned. I feel like this is for a real enthusiast. I mean, it really does go into the day to day at times and it's hardly a page turner. It's a dense and, for me, very dry read. If you're looking to find out about Stresemann then this does the job. All im saying is, it doesn't make for the most satisfying read.

This book certainly fills a gap in the market. A good English language textbook on the life of Gustav Stresemann. The book has a large amount of detail, whilst still being accessible and concise. However, after twenty years in the making this book fails to really shed any new ideas on Stresemann - a lack of historiography makes it less useful for the academic than it could have been. Having said that it is still the best book on the market about Stresemann and his influence over an important period in German histroy.

Early 20th century history - Imperial Germany & Weimar Republic from Stresemann's perspective. Very interesting, poignant and insanely detailed & insightful read. Especially the chaos of Weimar politics - almost exhausting. Highly recommend.
