As a current Boy Scout leader and outdoor enthusiast I have many opportunities to use survival gear. Luckily I haven’t had the need to rely on this gear for a real survival situation. If I had to however I would be VERY happy to have this hatchet on my belt or in my pack if the need arose.What is this tool good for and what isn’t it good for?1. This IS NOT a hatchet you would use for preparing a bunch of logs for a campfire. The weight of it does not lend itself to being a good tool for any heavy logging work.2. This IS a useful tool for cutting small branches for making a shelter or cutting small wood into kindling for starting a fire. The hatchet does have some weight and the center of gravity is 1 inch behind the hatchet head. The configuration make the hatchet fall forward when in your hand and allows for a greater striking force.This Boundary Surival Hatchet is a superior tool in all aspects! The green casing is made of a super hard and super durable plastic. While using this hatchet on a scouting activity I dropped it multiple times and used it for cutting green tree limbs and dead wood. The casing looks brand new even after 10 hours of use.The grip is made of a softer rubber like plastic. It is pleasant to the touch and provides an overall great ergonomic experience.I tested the hatchet and found the following things:- The hatchet cuts through green limbs across grain and with the grain of the wood like a hungry beaver. It does such a superior job at this that making a survival lean to shelter or other shelter with small stick would not take much time at all- The hatchet cuts through dead limbs across grain but not easily. Due to the lack of weight in the hatchet head the blunt force required the cut dead limbs does not exist. However I was impressed that it still performed well at this task.- When taking dead limbs and cutting with the grain this tool did a superior job. As expected it cuts with the grain of soft wood (i.e. pine) much easier than hard woods (oak, almond, hickory).The hatchet head comes from the factory sharp. It is made of a single piece of hard steel that is attached to the handle with a torx screw. I have other hatchets I use for firewood that are a metal head attached to a solid piece of hickory or other hard wood. These eventually fall off as the wood shrinks over time. This hatchet will have a longer life and be more durable due to its design and being a single piece of cast metal.There is an included sheath with a belt loop. I didn't test the belt loop because I will never carry a tool this big on my belt. However the sheath is a great addition due to the sharpness of the hatchet head. It protect my other gear in my bag from being cut.I will definitely be recommending this hatchet to everyone. I received this product in just a couple days from purchasing. It came in a nice black cardboard box that could double as storage, however my significant other decided to chuck it before I could get photos.We took it up camping and the size made it rather convenient for packing as well as toting around on short walks. It's small but packs a punch when gathering sticks for the fire. We found multiple uses for the tool over the weekend, such as during meals and fish cleaning. Also, it upholds well cosmetically with all the whacking you do. Only minor scratches appeared on the black areas of the hatchet.Overall, this tool was a fantastic add to our camping gear and I am certain we will find uses for it at home as well.I received this product at no cost for my honest and unbiased review.

Handling the hatchet is the best part. When you pick it up you instantly feel how well it is weighted. It feels great in your hand and makes chopping very easy. The grip is a non slip and is comfortable to use. The blade is of a high quality and very work friendly. its weight is moderate especially when using for a prolong periods.Overall this is a very nice hatchet at a great price.
