Fantastic
Isabelle has done it again. I love her style of writing and she has a knack of drawing you in from the very first page. Engaging, descriptive characters who you can really identify with. This is perfect escapism and you really can feel the heat of the sun as you read about the beautiful scenery of a Croatian island, the waves gently lapping on the shore. We first meet Kate following her rather eventful 30th birthday party when she is broken hearted and sets off to sunnier climes to lick her wounds and start to rebuild her shattered dreams.I enjoyed the easy banter between Kate and Alex and her brother Toby and his Italian husband Filippo, while picking up some handy interior design tips as Katehelps to prepare her brother's hostel for openingVivid descriptions of flash yachts, pebble beaches, breakfasting outside, the abundance of lavender, the contrast buzz of crickets and even a trip to the Tisak supermarket brought back many happy memories of my own trip to Hvar in October 2019 and I truly felt like I'd been on holiday myself. I even dreamed about Hvar last night!Without giving too much away this is a ovely story of finding yourself, being kind and learning to love yourself again and comes very highly recommended.Isabelle really should be on the payroll of many a tourist destination as her fantastic depictions would no doubt swell bookings.

Hooked me from the start
It’s not often these days that a book hooks me in to the point that I disappear from the chaos of family life, but with The Getaway I frequently found myself sitting on my bed reading. I fell in love with the main characters (not James) and Croatia. The description of the setting made me determined to visit all of the places named. The storyline was written with great thought and was very relatable. How often, when life gets tough, do we wish we could just get on a plane and escape? I know I have and especially so over the last year or so. Isabelle Broom deals so sensitively with the mental health of the characters in the book and I learnt some fantastic coping mechanisms that I’m going to try. There was so much to love about this book from the characters, the setting, the mindfulness of it and the interior design that I’m really hoping Netflix or Amazon buy the film rights. Loved every page .

Love, life... and the blue ocean
This book was near flawless for me. The characters were realistic and relatable. The storyline was captivating. The description of the places and surroundings was so “expressive” that I could vividly imagine it (honestly a welcome change since I very much need a vacation!).I liked that it was also a story of “self discovery”, which is always refreshing. I think it was nicely balanced; the humour, the drama, the bitterness, the romance. Although I guessed the “big secret” at the end from the very beginning, there were still some other surprises in the book.Would definitely recommend!

An easy read
An enjoyable book but a little cliche. Not many surprises.

Lovely feel good book
I’d just returned from holiday in Croatia and needed a book I could pretend I was still there and get lost in. This book was exactly that, really lovely story and I read it in 2 days. Loved the way the author described Hvar perfectly and loved all of the relationships throughout. Will definitely pick up more from this author!

Brilliant!!
This is a compelling read - the characters are well written, very likeable, and hard to let go at the end of the story. Croatia is an extra character in this book, and is so well described that it’s obvious the author has done a lot of research. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and heartily recommend it to anyone who likes a good love story, strong but likeable characters, and a happy ending.

Escapist and romantic - the perfect summer read
I absolutely loved this book. Reading it, I could feel the sun on my face and the sand between my toes, and I was zoomed away to beautiful Croatia, with characters I will remember for ever and a romantic, uplifting story that stole my heart. An essential summer read with humour and a whole lot of heart. Fantastic.
