Drum Sound and Drum Tuning (Audio Engineering Society Presents)

This book might be fantastic, but I can’t read it on my phone, because the text is so small. Unlike most kindle books, this one appears to be a scan and so there is no way to change the font size.

I am a horrible reader, as I am mildly dislexic and deficient in attention span, so I have yet to finish, but I like the orderly process he takes. Someone who doesn't even play drums can see the sense in what he's communicating (I'm a guitar player, but I do have a kit set up in my office).I have to buckle down and move forward in the book, because I want to re=tune my drums and I don't want to until I can follow his method. I was also waiting until I got a new phone to download his app. Nuts! it may be for apple phones only?

I highly recommend this book. Especially brilliant are the chapters on drum tuning, with just the right amount of physics and acoustics, and the integration with the author's iDrumTune Pro app putting the icing on the cake on this tricky subject. I am now empowered to approach the tuning of my studio's resident drumkit with more knowledge and insight. There is plenty of information on different drumheads and suggestions for setting up for different genres, and all this is in my experience better presented than in other texts. The second half of the book is an overview of aspects of drum recording and mixing that is very rounded, and included several ideas that I had not tried before. Refreshing indeed!

I own a few books on the subject already (not that there are many!) and I'm really glad I bought this one. It's really wonderful. I love the scientific approach and clear explanations. In just the first few chapters I already found essential information that I hadn't read anywhere else. The author also develops a drum tuning app which is very interesting, the book references it quite a bit.
