Q: are they for high arches?

Yes. They had compression through the arch of the foot it's literally like a rubber band around the middle of your foot.

Q: how does just constricting the foot cure plantar fasciitis. without adding a support at the bottom?

The elasticity of this product seems to support the arch from collapsing if you don't have supportive shoes or can't wear shoes for some reason. I'm not sure how this works for plantar fasciitis, but it seems to help.

Q: Will these help with broken fifth metatarsal pain?

The metatarsal bones are some of the most commonly broken (fractured) bones in the foot. There are five metatarsal bones in each foot. They are the long slim bones which run the length of the foot to the base of the toes. Sounds like you may need some doctors advise on this condition if you foot does have cracked bones.
