Too Heavy a Yoke: Black Women and the Burden of Strength
A**.
A must read...
This was assigned in one of my classes and I can say, this is a must read for Black women and any other woman who feels the weight of the world on her. Rich with facts, biblical verses and stories, makes this a truly memorable book. Excellent precursor to any healing program.

Selfcare Essential
Saw author speak in person. I was so inspired to change things in my own life. Great book, never thought so many women were experiencing the same thing. It was like reading about myself over and over again with each chapter, made me reevaluate and I realized my closest friends were experiencing the same thing so I got each of them a copy. I practice saying no now and remind myself constantly that I deserve to set boundaries that serve me well, reminding myself that everyone will be alright.

Balance
Walker-Barnes does an excellent job intertwining culture, faith, academics & industry to provide “StrongBlackWomen” with practical yet familiar tools to help them reestablish themselves with realistic views of their capacity to navigate the day to day without neglecting their own needs.

Great Read!
Very informative and thought provoking. I like that there were some relatable experiences. A recommend read for more self awareness of the pressures and assumed stereotyped identities (jezebel, matriarch, caregiver, etc.) placed on African American women.

Black women and anyone who cares about black women should read this book
This is the best book I've read on black female identity and spirituality. I've read many books on "strong women" but none of them have understood or described the black female psyche as well as Walker-Barnes does. The author deftly integrates history, theology, psychology and health sciences to help black women (and the people who care about them) understand why so many black women cling to the unhealthy and oppressive identity of the "StrongBlackWoman" -- an identity that is excessively independent, caregiving and emotionally strong. At first glance, this identity might seem liberating and empowering, but Walker-Barnes expertly dismantles that notion and shows that true freedom lies in interdependence and emotional authenticity. As a recovering StrongBlackWoman, this book has helped me see how my black feminine identity has been greatly impacted by hegemonic societal forces, and has helped me take off the StrongBlackWoman mask and live free.I'll be giving this book to all of my black female friends, but they're not the only ones who should read it. Pastors, friends, and relatives of black women should read this book too!

Transformative
This book is a must read for every Strong Black Woman, for those with whom she works/leads, and for any care provider of Black women. It’s not only eye-opening but heart-opening to the transforming power of God to restore the authentic selves of women who’ve armored up to survive a racist/sexist world.
