Great grammar book
This book is so helpful for learning German grammar. I’ve been using a popular app for learning German but wanted more explicit instruction about “the rules” (why “zum” instead of “zur”, for example). This book is user-friendly and includes exercises for practice with each concept introduced. Highly recommend it

One of the best books for learning German
This is one of the best book you can have to learn German, IMHO. The teachings are clear and concise. It is worth every cents of the price. In fact, I recommended to my entire german class to purchase this book. However, after checking with the writers, we also confirmed that there was some publishing errors in this edition 2 (the errors were not in edition 1).1. Page 88: 2nd person dativ plural for 'you (informal)' should be 'Ihnen' instead of 'Sie'2. Page 88: 3rd person dativ plural for 'they' should be 'Ihnen' instead of 'sie'3. Page 88: 3rd person dativ singular for 'it' should be 'ihm' instead of 'es'Similar printing errors were on page 90 too. Good luck!

Some Pages Not Well Cut and Bound
Pages of Chapters 5-7 look like they were misaligned during cutting, and bound not to the spine but to adjacent pages. Other pages look just fine.

Really Good
Clear explanations. I was hesitant to spend 40 dollars on a mini paperback, but it had good reviews and from the book preview, the explanations seemed unusually clear. It's definitely worth the money. The authors put a lot of thought into making German as easy to learn as possible. The organization of the chapters and concepts, the extensive answer key, and the little "blurbs" that re-clarify oft-confused grammatical concepts are a real jewel.

Fantastic Grammar Reference!!
This book goes in-depth on all the major German grammar concepts and includes self-check exercises. I'm using this book for review but I think this is an excellent resource for self-learning.

Amazing grammar tool!
Really quality outlook of grammar and sentence structures in German. This book did a wonderful job of detailing grammar and comparing it to English to help build bridges in learning. The exercises are extremely helpful and really solidify key components in each chapter. Highly recommend this book!

Beginners should avoid this book.
I am unable to return this book because I did not review it thoroughly within the 30 day return window due to my work schedule. I bought this based on the positive reviews given. I cannot give it positive review because although it says 'basic' it is not the same as a book for beginners. Here is my experience...I am studyig German using Babble and I am happy with how they present concepts in a step by step fashion. This book also introduces the grammar concepts in short, clear and well written English. However, the examples in German require that you have already a good understanding of basic concepts and at least more than 90 words in your vocabulary. The major flaw for the newcomer will be the exercises. These excersises are all over the place. In Chapter 1 question words are introduced without explanation. This topic is not covered until Chapter 7. No explanation is given in Chapter 1 as to what the difference between 'wo' and 'woher' is. As the exercises go on words that may be unfamiliar to someone with less than 100 common words appear. I found myself needing a dictionary to do these exercises. I was left with so many new words and verbs I felt overwhelmed. It did not work well for me.I think the book is misrepresented and should at least state what method is authors are using. This feels like an immersion method. You are, as I understand it, supposed to passively absorb advanced vocabulary and concepts through exposure very early on. This does not work for me. Beginners in the early stages should stay away. I think this book is good to check for the summary of grammatical concepts in English. This is how I plan to use it. I will jump around to the chapters that correspond to my current Babbel lesson and make note of the English explanation. I will then put the book down because the exercises are much too advanced for me at this point.I have provided snap shots from Chapter 2 to help you decide if this book fits your needs.
