Duran Duran's Rio

Is there something you should know?
If you're a fan of Duran Duran, there is nothing new in this book. There are extremely few insights into the writing and recording of Rio. And nothing that hasn't already been written in John and Andy's autobiographies. Which much has been lifted ("quoted") from those volumes to flesh out this little book.If you want to know more about how MTV influenced the record buying public in the US, then this is for you.At one point - and I went back and checked - for 7 pages, Duran Duran were never mentioned once, but I lost count how many times MTV was.A better title for this would have been: How Duran Duran were on MTV so people bought their records.

Not for music fans. For Duranies only.
They should just take the 33⅓ off this title, if I read one more article about hair, make up and videos about Duran Duran I'll puke. I've read other books in this series and they concentrate on the content of an album while mentioning cultural surroundings and influences etc. Here, I'll sum it up.. The songs are great, now let's talk about videos, hair, make up and girls.

Rather dull compared to others in the series.
I was really looking forward to this book. I have a few in the series, most of which offer a narrative on the individual tracks. But this spends far too long talking about the efforts to break into the US. Rio is a fantastic album and I would like to have read about it’s creation with more comment from the individual band members. If you have any knowledge of the behind the scenes on this album there’s nothing in this book to surprise you. Disappointing.
