if you ever wanted to be in hollywood
Ive only began to read this book whenever I am in between class but it is pretty interesting if you ever dreamed of going to hollywood or just love celebrity gossip. The story line is beginning to be a bit dragged out but the way it is written is like a daily journal so the fact it is drawn out allows you to forget for a second it is fiction.- you start to really place people and yourself in the characters shoes of "what if i got a dream job in hollywood" there is alot of exciting things that any love struck girl would enjoy. great getaway read :) glad I got it

Great Condition!!!!
The book was in great condition without anything wrong with it. I received it within in the scheduled time frame. I would buy from this buyer again. Not to mention the book was fantastic. It was written by my friend from high school. Thanks!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
POP TART took me two weeks to read as I kept putting it down, until I felt strong enough to force another chapter upon my poor eyes...To be honest; the only reason I bought this is because, like most people, I used to daydream about being rich and famous, so wanted to get a sense of what the world, daily life, and people who work for & generally mill around the Hollywood set are like. So I'll give this a star for the glimpse we do get into the lives of the other half.Even though I did get a peek into the life behind the lens of a superstar, there still wasn't anything in the story to hold my interest for more then two chapters at a time.It boils down to the fact that we've all read this story before in papers and rag mags all over the world; the authors are telling the Britney Spears story, in the guise of a 'fictional' novel. It seems lazy to me that two people wrote this, but made very little attempt in dressing up the fact that they've copied Ms Spears' life and have basically bundled a bunch of magazine articles together and called it a day.Take various tabloid stories + change the names of the people involved = Pop Tart.

Dull at times
Let's start off by saying that the overall idea for this book was excellent! I love reading books about Hollywood and stars and I also like makeup so reading about a girl who is hired as a stars' makeup artist was the perfect combo for me! However, the book lacked a few things...There was a lot of punctuation that should have or could have been fixed; little commas here and there and some sentences just didn't flow right. Some words also could have been moved around a little. It was a TON of stuff that should have been fixed but it was enough to distract me at times and make me re-read some sentences. It's my belief that a writer should never have to have their reader think about the text, other than in the context of the story. When the reader starts thinking about grammar and such...uh oh!Moving on to characters; I liked the main character, Jackie but at times she infuriated me. Why didn't she stick up for herself or beliefs more!? And the one time she did it was sort of a let down because another character walked right over her again. Everyone from her boss to her parents played a part in making her feel inferior. I also didn't like the fact that at the end of the book, one of the people she hated with a true passion throughout the first 300 pages, she suddenly was best friends with them by the end!! Just seems sort of weird to me.Setting was nothing to write home about, classic Los Angeles/Hollywood. If you know the Los Angeles are pretty well that you can imagine in your head exactly where they are and what they're experiencing. If you don't know L.A. (like me!) then I'm sure you can imagine what it's like.Overall, if you are willing to overlook the fact that there are some characters that are a bit annoying and some annoying grammar as well then it's okay. If you like books like Secrets of My Hollywood Life by Jen Calonita, then I'm sure you'll like this one as well! If you don't? Then I would not recommend this! Hope you enjoyed!http://www.thepaige-turner.com/2011/11/pop-tart-by-kira-coplin-and-julianne.html

Lazy retelling of the life of Britney Spears
I had high hopes for this book. The back cover made it sound interesting but once I got into the story, I realized that the authors pretty much took all the InTouch and US Weekly magazine articles about Britney Spears' life and turned it into a book. I can't believe that it took two authors to produce this book. They didn't bother to change much about Brooke's life (notice that even the first letter of their names are the same?), Brooke's from the South, Brooke goes on tour as a boy band's opening act, Brooke is dating a guy in the boy band (whose name is Jesse-quite similar to Justin Timberlake), she's has a pop rival similar to Christina Aguilera...the list goes on. They even lift the facts that Brooke loves fairies and vanilla candles, facts that any Britney fan can recall Britney talking about circa 2000. I guess I wouldn't be bothered as much if the two authors has shown a little effort to make Brooke her own person and not a carbon copy of someone real. It would have made more sense for them just to write a tell-all biography about Britney herself. So that rant's over and I have to say that Jackie, who is supposed to be the main character, isn't really that great either. I didn't really care for her character. She can't stand what Brooke has become when she's messed up on drugs and alcohol but she doesn't discourage either and seems more than willing to accompany her at the parties. Overall, Jackie comes off a little to whiny and unlikable to me. I wasn't pulling for Jackie to find a great guy or succeed in her job, which is bad when you feel you can't root for the main character. The book was just a disappoint to me and I've already put it in my pile to donate or garage sale.

Not for serious readers
I recieved an advance copy of the book and read it just for fun's sake. Ithought the book was a good read but not something that I would pass on to anyone. I didn't appreciate how the book made the main character appear to have no sense of self. I almost stopped reading it because it was annoying me but since I finish what I start I continued.

Hmmmmm
Maybe i am wrong to write a review seeing as i couldnt finish this book (i gave up after 6 chapters). As a make up artist myself i thought id give it a read but found there were too many characters to keep up with who was doing what and where which was very confusing, i didnt find any suspense in it at all, just boring talk of a miley cyrus like character who lives on a tour bus and has a Jonas brothe type boyfriend. I dont usually stop reading books mid way but i just couldnt carry on with this. Also i think this is for more younger readers as the vocabulary and writing wasnt what i expected....too much "cute", "so cool" and "awesome" being used as adjectives.

Boring, Boring
It's an inside fictional story about a pop singer named Brooke. But it starts after she becomes famous not before when she was a normal innocent, naive girl wanting to be famous not realising that fame has a dark side. I was disappointed. I stopped reading it somewhere in the middle.I wouldn't recommend this book. Spotlight by Ilana Fox is so much better.

Not the bubble gum read you might think
I admit I bought this book thinking it would be a typical trashy beach book that i could devour in a few sittings. However this book is not as candy coated as you might expect despite the coverThis book is actually very well written but i would not say it was an easy read. You did need to pay some attention whilst reading it as the plot does not stay on the straight and narrow. Sophie Kinsella this is not.The author is not as fluid as other chick lit writers but thats not to say this is a bad book. I was suprised at how long it took me to read. Like the first person who reviewed this I usually read a book in a few sittings but this took a good 10 days of picking up and putting down (and even reading another book in between) before i finished.Pop Tart is not the bubble gum read it is easily mistaken to be. I say give it a whirl and see what you make of it. Its not a bad book but neither is it the greatest read ive read.

Ooops!...I'm. In. The. Wrong. Age. Group!
The way I've typed the title-line illustrates one of the ways in which this novel disappointed me. I was hoping to be entertained, amused and shocked a little by this piece of fluffy chick-lit. Instead I found a deeply predictable, thinly disguised fictionalisation of Britney Spears's spiralling career. The cult of celebrity is fascinating, if ultimately ridiculous; We know what to expect, but this novel (authored, incredibly, by two writers) quickly becomes tiresome in its relentless roundabout of who's-she-sleeping-with?, what's-she-on? and what-on-earth-does-she-look-like? I began to wish that either the star (Brooke) or her make-up artist (Jackie) would take an overdose or throw herself out of a hotel window with a vast quantity of alcopops in her system. When the inevitable breakdown finally occured I was yawning, not at all shocked and completely fed up with both of the witless women.Through every chapter, I silently predicted their every Hollywood faux pas, but maybe it was because I'm a 40-something, not a teenaged or 20-something woman... The frequent use of: One. Word. Pieces. Of. Dialogue. By. Almost. Every. Character actually infuriated me. The authors do not pretend to be Shakespeare, but this really is not good writing.'Pop Tart' is clearly perfect for a lazy afternoon on the beach; book in one hand, Blackberry in the other, Ipod sounds between the ears and mani-pedi gleaming. I read it in one afternoon and felt disappointed that I'd made the effort to prepare a cafetaire of coffee and moisturise my feet.I'm sure that the 'Chick-Lit' market can produce the occasional gem of a book, but it's taking some effort to find one. There is an audience just right for 'Pop Tart'. Just make sure that you are in the suitable age-group!

Could be better - promised more than it delivered
Pop Tart is the debut novel from Kira Coplin and Julianne Kaye. From the back cover it sounds like a very interesting read. A make-up artist, Jackie, is trying to make her way in LA when the chance of a lifetime comes in the form of Brooke Parker, a rising star. They form a firm friendship and Brooke brings Jackie into the life of the rich and famous. Until Brooke starts to rebelThe cover is gorgeous and the blurb makes the book sounds like a must-read but alas it does not live up to expectation.Unfortunately I'm currently struggling to finish the novel. I'm almost half-way through and nothing of note has really happened. I will carry on but I have to say it may well take a while... unless I just read it to get it over with which sounds like a good prospect to me right now. It's a shame that the novel isn't living up to the hype as the premise of the story makes it sound like an incredible read and one which, while ficticious, will go behind-the-scenes of what really goes on with a young, famous person. On the back cover of the novel it says Brooke Parker is 16. However on page 58 a newscaster reports that Brooke is "just 18 years old". That is a huge error to slip through the editing process I have to say. And a pretty basic one at that.I think the first-person style of the novel is all wrong. For a novel with two female characters that are the core of the novel it would have been better written in third-person so we could get Brooke's perspective rather than just Jackie's.Not only that but who on earth uses the word "beat" to describe something that's "cool". I have never read that word being used anywhere.I just can't get over how much I dislike this novel. The pace is a snail's one and I know I'm not even half way through but it's just so difficult to keep reading something this bad. I will skim-read the last half of the book.
