Easy to read, but contains inaccurate information
I picked up this book because it looked like a light, easy read, and I thought it would offer a good introduction to cleaning up my diet and getting free of wheat, gluten, and sugar. The light and easy part met my expectations, and I finished the book in a couple of sittings. The author was a little too fond of catch phrases and buzzwords for my liking, and it felt like I was reading one long magazine article, but I shouldn't complain, as I bought the book in part for the easy reading after all.A positive of the book is that it offers up some tasty recipes and new ideas for meals strategies. There are also some useful tables with columns for "bad, better, and best" eating options, which are a convenient reference tool. The author also gives us a `14 day-kick start diet,' which I haven't followed and don't intend to. It's too restrictive in calories for me, and could cause me to rebel and relapse into a binge at some point. But for those with an iron will, the meals look tasty. And sure enough, he does cover the whys and hows of giving up wheat, gluten, and sugar in a broad if not deep manner. He also offers additional information on why stress makes us fat, and includes an easy exercise plan at the end of the book. The reason I only gave the book 3 stars was because of the veracity of some the content, beginning with the author's opinions on microwaving. He makes the statement that "microwaves kill the goodness in food." This comment brought my reading to a halt. The author offers no evidence to substantiate this claim, nor did he point me in the direction of any scientific studies that have proven this. Indeed, there are no citations for this or any other of the emphatic statements he makes throughout the book. The truth is that numerous studies have found that for most foods, microwaving actually helps retain nutrients, at least when compared to boiling foods and other forms of over cooking. (Please - if anyone can point me towards any legit studies stating otherwise - let me know!) On top of that he nay-says frozen foods, which again, if they've been frozen correctly, can contain more nutrients than some `fresh' foods that have been sitting on the store shelf for too long. However, the major stick in my craw was when, after extolling the virtues of giving up gluten, the author goes ahead and lists rye and spelt as fine foods to indulge in. However, both foods are packed with gluten. Hopefully no one who's allergic to gluten goes by his recommendations. In conclusion I found this the Clean and Lean Diet book a pleasant enough and easy read. It contained some useful information and some nice, simple recipes, which I've already begun to use. And I got what I wanted from it, which was to begin along the path of eating a more clean diet, without the arduous slog of a more intensive book. Unfortunately however, the inaccuracies left me wondering about which of the information I could really trust - so an arduous slog with a more factual book is now on my horizon after all.Bottom line: If you want an easy, fluffy afternoon read to get you on track in cleaning up your diet, this is the book for you. If you'd prefer a book packed with verifiable facts and depth you'd better try elsewhere.

Great book to get started into a clean eating lifestyle (pros and cons review)
Its a great book to get you started into a clean eating lifestyle (and motivate you). Here's my pros and cons:PROs- easy to read, great guide for clean eating, excellent explanation of why you should give up sugar and processed foods, etc (great motivator, worked for me!), includes tables to help you make better decisions about food choices, beautiful photos and well organized in terms of contentCONs- the biggest negative for me (reason I took off 1 star) is that his definition of protein is "animal protein" he says there are plenty of vegetarian options but those include eggs and dairy (not all vegetarians eat eggs and dairy) his list of "clean and lean proteins" only list animal proteins, no mention of plant-based proteins in this list that would be so helpful to so many people. I don't think only sourcing your protein from animal sources is the cleanest way to eat, and there are tons of studies that support eating less animal protein, I was surprised that his diet was so animal-protein heavy. Also, the font could have been a little darker (or larger) if you read in dim light, some of the pages are very hard to read with the background photos. Also, his exercise guide should follow the order that the photos with instructions are shown. You have to constantly flip back and forth to find the exercises. I recommend memorizing the exercises (not many) so you can just read the guide. I don't agree 100% with some of his statements (about microwave, he even labeled meat as a good fat at one point then contradicts himself in the end saying meat fat has toxins, or that exercising everyday elevates cortisol levels -- depends on what you are doing, but doing yoga or Pilates everyday or even something you have fun with and enjoy doing does NOT increase your cortisol levels). besides, with some of his clients they work out more than 3x/week.Overall - I think it's a great book with some very helpful info and it's a great motivator to eating clean. I love that he focuses on healthy mind aspect and leading a stress-free life, which is SO important.

I liked the no-nonsense approach to getting fit and healthy but ...
I liked the no-nonsense approach to getting fit and healthy but I can't help but think that this guy (the author) is making a packet just by giving normal sensible dietary advice that anyone could give you. The basic message is `if you eat grilled fish (must be organic or caught on the line) and greens (obviously organic) and do a bit of exercise you will look like the person on the front cover (his wife). Maybe the reason she looks like that is because her husband is making a packet peddling advice that everyone knows, and her husband is also flogging gym membership (to his exclusive gyms of course) for 22,000 quid PER YEAR! He trains super models and celebs who have pots of cash. Oh and of course he advocates the consumption of organic fruit, veg and basically everything. Not really for the average strapped for cash person.

Easy to follow with good results
I have been following this diet for two weeks and have lost 8lb. I still have another 20 or so to lose to get to my target weight but this has given me a good start. The concept is to stop eating the things which make you put on/retain excess fat and eat the things which encourage your body to shed unwanted fat. The two week quick start diet is easy to follow and the ingredients required are readily available. The portion sizes are sufficient to prevent hunger pangs and you are allowed specific snacks between meals. As with all weight loss regimens certain items are excluded totally for the first 2 weeks and are only to be consumed in very small amounts afterwards, the one I initially missed the most was a glass of wine at the end of the day but I've got used to it!

It works for me!
I bought this after picking up the Lean and Clean diet book cheap in a supermarket and loving the approach to managing your weight through this approach to healthy eating. The theory makes sense and I've lost weight and inches more quickly than on the previous low fat approach I used to follow when I needed to lose some weight. I love the food, and it even works with the odd few glasses of wine at the weekend and a weekly pasta meal!

Great plan to change your lifestyle!
I really needed a plan to get me started and after reading the reviews I decided to purchase the book. So glad I did! I have found the book easy to follow with the best and better format been so simple. I feel less hungry and feel the easy to follow meals are perfectly balanced. I feel inspired like a weight has been lifted because you can eat real food which has not been messed with. I would definitely recommend and I have now ordered the cookbook!

Difficult first few days but then a breeze with fab results
Great detox. Easy to follow. Easy to make your own alternatives to recipe suggestions. I found the first two days difficult, but after that it became quite easy, as you don't even want the stuff you shouldn't have. I lost weight and inches around my waist. I got the cookbook as well and found some really good recipes in there. Good book, but definitely a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix. Worth a try
