Sturdy and simple rack for horizontal or vertical setup
My home study has relatively little outboard gear but I have a couple 2U interfaces and requested this for review to see if it would help organize things.Out of the box, was happy that the unit felt so sturdy and appears to be well-constructed. Made in Canada!Powder coating is even and, for a rack, it looks good.6 wood screws are provided and they’re a little too long for my intended location (under a desk, basic IKEA flat board). Some steel washers helped solve that problem. The rack is rated for 200lbs but, honestly, unless you’re screwing into wall studs or a solid wood desk, it’s only as strong as the wall or desk you’re screwing into. In my case, an old IKEA particle board. I’d not have attempted it but the provided wood screws are really substantial and, with 6 of them, it installed super securely. Also provided are M5 cage nuts. 16 of them. Easy to install. I used the flat end of a nylon probe tool to help install them. The 2U interface I’ve had installed so far was a bit hefty but doesn’t sag at all.Couldn’t be happier with this rack. If I ever need to expand, the first company I’m checking out will be StarTech.

Fits as expected, cross brace isn't super sturdy
Fits all my rack mount items as expected. I had no issues getting cage nuts (included ones, or my other aftermarket ones) into the holes or anything like that. The cross brace isn't super sturdy and allows for some torsion, but this won't affect the equipment mounting unless your wall is extremely out of flat. If you're wall mounting this, make sure to use some high quality anchors (or mount directly to studs) because the weight of multiple switches can quickly add up. I have also used this standing horizontally on a desk, or on top of my half-height server rack to add a couple extra slots. If you do this, just make sure to either screw it down, or be mindful of the length of equipment you install (else it could get back-heavy and tip over).

This is a REAL one.
Be advised that there is a lot of generic junk available out there trying to replicate this (and a few professional versions similar to this, as well). The difference is that this is one piece of metal, and then the metal was "rolled" (I think is the method) to create the perfect bends. Look closely at generic offerings and you'll see that most of them come flat packed as three pieces that you have to assemble, creating room for warping and they are absolutely not as strong as this one. This also comes set up (and including) cage nuts, which means that you don't have to be concerned about ruining the threads on any existing holes in the frame (you could just replace the cage nut in that case). Comes with hardware to populate this about 50%. Good for custom telecomm closets in homes and small buildings or wings of buildings where an extra closet or half closet is needed.
