Keeping Student Strengths at the Forefront
Cecilia Espinosa and Laura Ascenzi-Moreno give us all a beautifully crafted a book that defines responsive instruction at its finest. Each word of Rooted in Strength is a vivid reminder to begin with what we know about children as we focus on all that they bring to the learning experience and the many strengths that will support our daily instructional choices. As I read Rooted in Strength, I realized that the title could just as easily have read, "Rooted in Love" as that's exactly how they approach our professional responsibility to children. Cecilia and Laura don't just show us how to use translangaguaging to 'grow multilingual readers and writers' but also give us specific practices and ideas that will honor, enrich, and extend each aspect of our literacy day.

I love this book!
So excited to dig into this book!!! As an elementary school teacher, I want to understand how to do translanguaging with my kids during readers' and writers' workshop. This book really has helped me think about how to do just that and I'm trying out things already. What I love about this book is that it pushes you to think about what it means to teach emergent bilinguals and honor their resources. It's my favorite in my professional library!

Sorely needed!
I'm so excited to finally read about translanguaging from educational experts who have extensive experience in the classroom and with preservice teachers. As a new elementary school teacher with several ELLs, I want to learn how to do and teach translanguaging with my students and to embrace them and their languages. To be an equitable, culturally responsive teacher is to learn and encompass translanguaging, and this book is perfect to start!

Practical and Thoughtful
Insightful and practical. Addresses both reading and writing and many of the topics like guided reading, shared reading, and assessments that teachers need to do are thought about from a different perspective. I love the tone of the book, I feel like they are speaking directly to me.

FINALLY! A book about childhood literacy from a translanguaging perspective
I am psyched to assign this book to my pre-service teachers, who will delight in reading this accessible, bright and thoughtful text about literacy that looks at bilingual learners from a position of strength. Includes tips for guided reading, shared reading, writer's workshop, and so much more.

Meaningful practices to implement immediately!
Practical and easy to implement practices that are meaningful in creating a translingual classroom!! So many other books just talk about why it's necessary, this one actually gives ideas on how to do it!!
