Great product for commercial integrators
As a commercial audio/video integrator, we occasionally have to interface with IR components. Sometimes customers have residentials TV's in their boardroom that can only be controlled using IR. Other times, its consumer gear like CATV tuners or satellite TV receivers. Instead of pricey control systems, its easier to have an IR receiver at the display and use the tuner remote control since everyone is familiar with the button layout. I have purchased BAFX IR distribution devices in the past, and they work great. There are other products for IR signal distribution that work, but they are expensive. The BAFX IR system works and is capable of passing a wider range of IR frequencies than some of the other products out there. The BAFX Cat5 adapter kit is a great addition to the BAFX product list. It works well with the BAFX products, but I used it for a different application. My company had a project using Global Cache products for sending IR commands to cable TV tuners and Samsung displays. There were Cat6 cables from the equipment rack to five Samsung displays. At first, I tried to use Dolphin DC-100-P connectors to splice the IR emitter cables to the Cat6 cable. Some emitters received signals and other emitters did not. I removed the Dolphin connectors and tried troubleshooting with Wago 221-2401 connectors so that I could easily change the wiring. I had the same results.Pro Tip: To test IR emitters, use your cell phone camera as an IR tester. Point the remote or the IR emitter at your camera to see if the IR LED is flashing. Some phones will only show IR on the front facing camera.I decided to order the BAFX Cat5 adapter kit as a last resort along with a 100 foot 3.5mm extension cable. Once I proved that the IR signal was passing with the extension cable, I decided to try the BAFX Cat5 adapter kit with the Cat6 cable. After putting Cat6 ends back on the Cat6 cable and testing the cable, I inserted the BAFX adapters into the signal chain. Everything worked! I ordered more of the adapter kits for the additional TV's after the proof of concept experiment worked. I wish I had ordered the BAFX Cat5 adapter kit after my first trip to troubleshoot the IR extension issue. It would have saved a lot of time and multiple trips that we weren't able to bill. I have been extending IR signals with a distribution block and splicing emitter cables for years. At this point, the headaches aren't worth saving the small cost of the adapter kit.I am very happy with the quality and functionality of BAFX products. The Cat5 adapter kit is a great problem solver. I will be specifying the adapter kit into projects with the BAFX IR distribution systems since it makes life a lot easier on job sites.

The sensor works so well you may not need this kit. Great quality otherwise.
Update after full new installation:The original sensor works so great I didn't need to use the extender kit!Let me explain. I bought the repeater set BAFX Products IR Repeater - Remote control extender Kit . I was concerned about the distance. The main couch is at 15' - fine. The kitchen is back farther at 30'. I figured I'd need this and even wired for it.As it turns out - the original repeater sensor (the same as in this kit) works fine from 30' away in the kitchen. So this is in the package. Works so well you may not need it!Original: This is a good solution to outfitting a room's coverage with additional IR repeaters. My house has a 14x14 family room. Totally open (carpet vs hardwood) to a breakfast nook. Totally open (cabinets) to the kitchen. For my new in-cabinet stereo/AV/TV the DirectTV RF remote won't work.So I have the BAFX IR repeater - and this set of remote adapters. So I fished a CAT-X (happened to be 6 in the house supply room) cable. Jack by Left rear where the subwoofer and IR repeater (halfway mark) will go) and the stereo built in (new) cabinet. This is a perfect solution - adapt a purpose specific run of CAT-5/6 able to adapt to IR repeater duty. The only thing I did was buy some Black 6" cables to appease my wife as black "disapears" far more readily than blue. Great product which brings much needed flexibility boost to RF repeater
If you have the ability to tip your own CAT5/6 then this is exactly the solution you should utilize if you need to extend the receiver sensor further than the original length allows. From now on, I will always run an additional CAT6 line up to any TVs I’m hiding the wires on just in case I decide to use this product again in the future. The included instructions cover all of the different scenarios that the kit supports. High quality components. Worked perfectly on the first try.
