Great substrate
Good value for the money. Color is nice and dark. Definitely needs to be rinsed if you want to minimize water cloudiness.

Awesome substrate!
Got a bag for my six gallon corner tank. It provided a nice 1-1/2 to 2 inch layer over my under gravel filter. The plants like it. The fish and snails seem to enjoy it. And it adds a natural layer to my Aquascape with the greyish color. Kind of expensive per bag, but I also don't plan on replacing it for years. Would recommend and will use again on future tanks.

Works well in my planted aquarium
First of all, about the cloudiness: It tells you in the description that it is a clay based substrate and that transporting will inevitably produce dust and there is a lot of it. The bucket method will take a long time if you insist on it going into your tank completely clean (if that's even possible). I've found that pouring some into a high sided tray like a cake pan (I use a plastic document protector from Walmart), spreading it out flat then elevating one end and pouring water so it runs down toward the lower end, yielded better results even though you can't rinse as much at a time. I used it in a 6 gallon tank so it wasn't bad, but larger tanks are gonna take more work. Second, the individual pieces are pretty consistent in size, not as smooth as sand but smoother than crushed quartz, and has enough weight that it doesn't stay suspended in the water column if disturbed. Don't confuse this with the Fluorite Black Sand which is much finer, dirtier, and lighter. Lastly, I want to mention that while it does get darker when wet, it's still not jet black. There are also a very small percentage of lighter colored "grains" (white, reddish, tan). Less than 1% but may be noticeable to some people. I have no issue with it. Overall, I'm satisfied and have bought 3 bags total.

I LOVE the built in strainer... makes it 100 times easier to prep for fishtank.

Ok gravel, not solid black
Small size gravel 1-3 mm. The black coloring is an iron coating. The more you rinse the more black will come off. After 5 rinses 20% remained black, 65-70% various shades of grey, about 5-10% light with black specks on it, 5% sandy-white, 1% red It did not make my water hazy and did not change the hardness or kh of the water.

Nice look
Looks great in my new tank. Required quite a lot of rinsing before I felt comfortable putting it in the tank

Excellent substrate, real black
This is my favorite substrate for planted aquariums and paludariums. It's actual black material (some black gravel sold for aquariums are painted black). The dust isn't as big a deal as some others make it sound. I've even used it without rinsing it at all - the dust settles after a day or two and the water becomes completely clear. It's an inert medium (contains no nutrients) but root tabs and/or fish waste will take care of that issue.

Adds great colour to the floor of my aquarium. Have it on top of a different growing substrate to help keep plants anchored and it works very well.

I absolutely love Seachem Fluorite Black Clay Gravel! It really elevates the look of the tank, creating a natural and rich environment. The dark color gives the water a beautiful, deep tone, making the fish stand out. I recommend washing it thoroughly before adding it to the tank, as it can cloud the water at first. Overall, it’s a fantastic choice for anyone looking to create a stunning, natural aquascape that the fish will enjoy!
