Great paper for painting!

No issues with the product itself, but it arrived with a damaged corner and the pages are bent. My Niece whom I'm gifting this to is only 2 yrs old, so I don't think her or her parents will mind, but it's disappointing. I might return it after the holidays if they'd like to wait for a new one. I'd hope the packaging for these items improve. Even just afew cardboards inserts could help.

Art supplies are my preferred gift for children of all ages. Developing the creativity and confidence that comes from the practice of art adds lifelong value. But they don't need to work with junk supplies just because they are kids. Open their world with a glimpse of something special. This Strathmore Paint Pad is a perfect product and price point for budding watercolorists without going completely crazy. It is sturdy and finely textured and easily reveals the artistry of watercolor that a stack of your printing paper cannot. Remove a page from the tablet, show the young artist how to tape down the edges on a (washable) surface and take the time to learn with them how this paper gently absorbs color and brushstroke. You won't be sorry.

We use these for my daughter's homeschool curriculum, which has a Waldorf bent. These sketchbooks serve as main lesson books in which she writes and draws. The large pages encourage her to let her creativity flow, even with large, block crayons. The quality of paper is perfectly adequate for crayons and colored pencils. We have used 12 x 12 scrapbook paper to cover the printed front and drawing suggestions they put inside. The spiral binding makes this superior, as a school book, to most children's drawing pads put together with a glue binding. The nice quality encourages our daughter to do her best work and to take care of her books. This type of paper would not stand up well to watercolors, nor is it meant to. It is, however, great for writing, drawing, and minor cut and paste projects.
