It's A Sin [Region B]

Where "Smalltown Boy" left off
An extraordinarily moving series with exceptional writing, exceptional casting and exceptional storyline. A group of six friends – five gay guys and a straight woman – are caught up in the heady atmosphere of 80s London, especially given that many of them come from the provinces. At last, freedom to be themselves. Or is it? They’re used to homophobia, which was one reason for leaving their hometowns, but this is also the time when AIDS began to strike fear into all sections of society. Over five heart-wrenching episodes, we follow them and how their dreams play out. For the AIDS crisis itself, it wasn’t always easy to distinguish prejudice from the lack of real understanding of the illness. It’s a Sin, though, brings back centre stage the humanity that was so often missing.Exceptional performances all round. Three women stand out though: Valerie (who is not nice), Eileen (who is), and Jill, who is a phenomenon! Elsewhere some touching or disturbing moments (without any spoilers): Roscoe’s dad asking for forgiveness, the police putting gloves on to break up a peaceful demonstration, the last scene for Gregory’s dad (Gary Lewis) and Mr Coltrane.Watch the series, but have a box of hankies ready.

Excellent
The story is both sad and uplifting (in my opinion), and sends us back to the 80s when AIDS emerged. The actors, the soundtrack, and the sad accuracy are fantastic.I’ve watched the series several times, and every time, I find myself missing the characters when I’m finished.

The best year's drama
Russell T Davies soars with this evocative and very special tale of the 1980s. Brilliant casting, great performances and an engaging storyline where you will weep with joy and cry in indignation, in equal measure.
