NOW Foods Super Omega EPA, 240 Soft Gels

Genuine product.

I ordered this when my locally-bought supply of Omega 3 capsules started running low. The price per unit (how much Omega 3 EPA and DHA I'm getting for my money) is about 1/4 of what I was paying in our local store, and the quality is much higher. This is molecularly distilled, so I also know I don't have to worry about mercury or other heavy metal contaminants. It's great oil at a great price and the shipping was really fast - what more could we ask for? Update: With the news that Fukushima radiation is contaminating northern Pacific sealife at an alarming rate, I recently contacted NOW Foods to ask where the fish for this oil are harvested, and was told they're caught off the coast of Peru. This area is predicted to remain free from Fukushima radiation, and so eliminates this concern (unlike the risks with salmon or krill that are harvested in the northern Pacific). And since fish are notorious for refusing to stay in just one area of the ocean, NOW foods additionally tests for radiation to ensure none of their products have been contaminated in this way. I emailed NOW Foods for this information, and received a reply just a few hours later. This also speaks incredibly well for their customer service. I believe that most name brand products generally just cost more without offering any extra benefits or quality, and so I very rarely look for a specific brand of anything. However, I've become committed to the NOW Foods brand, simply because I know I can trust in the safety of the product. And the low price is an extra bonus I don't normally find in a brand I feel I can trust. It's a bit scary to think of any of the supplements I take to stay healthy actually doing harm instead - it seems these days we have to be especially careful about the quality and safety of nearly all supplements. I'm really glad to have found at least one product I can buy without concern, and am seriously considering buying all my supplements from NOW Foods from now on. And no, I don't work for NOW Foods. I was neither asked to write this review nor rewarded for doing so. But if it's fair to warn others when I have a bad experience with a company, it's only fair to let others know when I have a great experience too.

Good quality and price

After a small amount of research, I quickly determined that all Omega-3 isn't created equal. That being said, I'm not quite sure if this is the ideal - I note the ingredients are mostly from Mackerel, Anchovies, and some other fish, but I didn't quite do the research on that part to determine if this was bad or not. What I do know is that these pills are huge! They dwarf Centrum dailies, which are not small in their own right. They're gel, so they go down easier than they look, but expect a bit of trepidation each morning. Another thing is that you will get the fish burps. It's not bad if you're used to it, but expect that too. Otherwise, setting myself up for a blood test in a couple months to see where I'm at. Hopefully all will be good!

I have been taking this product for just about a year and it has made a huge difference in my life. My brain needs it. It took stress out of my life; it smoothed out my moods; it gave me better health in general; and I lost weight without feeling deprived. I was a doubter. Originally I tried fish oil to please my doctor and it failed me. I tried a store brand of fish oil capsules years ago and they made me depressed, which I confirmed by trying a second time. Someone suggested getting micro-distilled and that I might be sensitive to things in regular fish oil. This year I finally tried this NOW brand. What a difference! I can't believe what I've been missing. I know research varies on how effective fish oil may be. I decided on this brand and this formulation based on Stephen Ilardi's TED talk. I used to consider my overall moods to be normal and hanging out in the neutral zone with brief swings in either direction depending on life. After a year of this fish oil, I realized the old me was swinging from medium-low with a barely working brain to medium-high with constantly spinning brain and only getting real things accomplished when I was in the middle. With these capsules, I get things done and I feel normal without feeling drugged. I get to keep a complete set of emotions, but with my brain working and not dragging behind or freaked out. I'm comfortable being me. Without all the mood-induced stress eating, I was able to be mindful in my choices, not lie to myself about calories, and lose weight. Maybe it does all those other wonderful things they say fish oil does that only shows up on lab tests, but I know it has changed ME and that doesn't show up at the lab. I'm a baby boomer. I take one capsule in the morning and one at night and have had no issues with "fish burp".
