Hardest part is removing the old one
I had to pull the axle to replace the backing plate and brake anchor so it seemed like a good idea to replace the seal. I coated the lip with gear lube before I put the axle back in. Perfect fit for 8.5” 10 bolt Silverado

Good solid product
Looks like a quality product. I try to use Timken seals and bearings whenever I can. It looks different than what came off vehicle but installs with minimal fuss. Just tap around the edges of the old seal and pry it out with a hammer or small pry bar or something. Installation is easy...just make sure there are no burs on the receiving axle and tap this in with a block of wood with a dead blow hammer.

High Quality
Timken's reputation is very good. The seals looked and felt like quality parts. This type of axle lubricates the bearings with gear lube from the differential, they bearings are not packed in grease. Good seals are required for trouble free operation. The installation was without any trouble and I'm confident they will last longer than they need to.

Too small
These will not fit a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500HD, too small. I believe these are for an 8 1/2" rea⁸r differential, my HD has 9 1/2". I gave 2 stars because if the OD & ID sizes were listed in the description, it would avoid a lot of hassle, had to return .
