When We Collided

Vivi, aptly named, is nothing short of vivacious. Although her troubles are obvious to the reader from the very first page. Jonah, well he’s the ultimate book boyfriend, everyone knows perfect boy’s only exist in books. Their relationship felt realistic and I connected with both characters right from the start. I even tried out some of Jonah’s recipes along the way! I actually slowed down reading towards the end because I wanted to savour the last few chapters. Unfortunately I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending, it felt rushed in parts, as a reader I don’t like things left unsaid and most of all I was rooting for these two hoping for a happy ending. This particular book shares similarities to ‘All The Bright Places’ and it’s made me want to read more from Lord (Also secretly hoping for a sequel as she’s done with one of her other novels!)

A wonderful book about something that is so far from wonderful
I bought Emery Lord's book because "When we collided" sounded like something else. I hate love stories packed with the most successful and perfect people. The people in this story are not perfect, but so much more. Viv has bipolar disorder and this illness makes every day ... harder than it might be for other people.Jonah lost his father and has to take care of his siblings as well as his mom who is mentally unstable. When the two of them meet, something really special starts to evolve and I had a great time learning about them as well as the other loveable and truly wonderful characters in this book. But more importantly, I shed more than a few tears. This book moved me and this book is so much more than any average love story ever could be. It is telling the truth. The truth about what life is like for many people out there. Many people who are not perfect, but so much more.
