Q: Can I connect 2 computers to one monitor with this device?

Hello, This is more for having one computer and transmitting the video to extend to two displays. (MST)

Q: Is there one that does displayport to displayport and hdmi?

DP is superior to all other formats, the advantage here means you can go from DP->HDMI with a $5 passive cable, or to DVI-D, or VGA. But, to go the other way you would need a $50 upscaling conversion box. So, just buy this thing, then buy a cable that has DP on one end and HDMI on the other.

Q: Will this work with one 3440x1440 and one 2650x1440 monitor at the same time? Total number of pixels is about the same as 3840x2160 (4k).

It will drop the common resolution and as long as it is higher than 1080p, then there should be no problem for the MST to kick in and allow for the desktop expansion.

Q: Will this allow me to send the output of a kvm switch to two monitors? one reviewer struggled with this, not sure if design forbids it.

This will depend on how the KVM switch is implemented. If the KVM switch simply switches the DisplayPort interface and passes it straight through it should work just as well as if you had unplugged it from one PC and plugged it in to another. Many KVM switches however are not just switches, they will often emulate the connected devices when disconnected so that the upstream computers don't notice that anything has changed. When doing this the KVM switch has to understand what's going on with the attached devices and I suspect that most are not aware of MST configurations of any kind.
