Q: Is this big enough to catch a cicada?

I think it would be a little tight to catch a cicada without risking harming the cicada. It is a very cool toy, though, and my kids really are enjoying it. So are all our little and not so little friends who come to play at our house. Hope this helps.

Q: Does the light scare the bug away?

Not from my experience. I've loved this product because I'm scared of bugs. My grandson loves this product because he examines the bugs after catching them and then lets them go outdoors. The light doesn't seem to have any affect on the bug at all.

Q: Does this help catch and release spiders form the house?

Catching them is easy. Releasing isn’t as easy. You open the hatch and kinda smack it out. I wish it had a way to reverse the fan and blow them out.

Great for small bugs, but put in fresh batteries!

This bug vacuum is great for spiders found in the house. I've noticed reviews that mention this bug vacuum is too weak. Swap out the batteries for fresh ones, and it'll be noticably louder & stronger. The plastic construction is on the cheaper side, but then again this is meant to be a toy.This is my go-to product whenever a rogue spider is found crawling around.

Only one in the market!

My 6 years old loves it a lot! The magnifier lense is very clear and we are able to see insects like never before! Suction is not very strong but it's fine. You can't suck ants though, they escape from the holes on the side.

The customer says "I am terrified of bugs, I'm the person that screams when they see a beetle and I am always hoping someone is nearby so I can bribe them to kill that bug! That all changed when I found this great little bug catcher. First of all the design is fun and it makes you feel like a kid again just holding it. I have caught and released a few bugs with this, its more humane that killing them. If you want to kill them because your afraid it may come back then you simply vacuum the bug and then release it in the toilet and FLUSH. If your a bug hater like myself this is the tool you have been dreaming about! Simple to use and very effective."
