Does this work with fiber optic hdmi cables?

My experience with a fiber optic cable is yes and no. The one fiber cable I have , has both metal wire and fiber. The fiber line will not allow electricity to pass through, but worked fine when connected to audio video components.

Can this be used to test a single cable for continuity? Does it have it's own battery? Thanks!

It is powered by the 5v from, HDMI cables, it has no internal battery, but yes this will test continuity, if the cable is cut or damaged it will indicate fault.
