Extended travel like that is where DVTs strike most
I have worked in the pharmacy/DME industry for a long time, so I knew that Jobst was the ONLY company from which to purchase medical hosiery. When I experienced what was suspected to be a DVT (deep vein thrombosis - a clot in a major vein in my body. These are extremely dangerous as these clots can break loose and move to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism. PE's are extremely fatal and over 300,000 people per year worldwide die suddenly from PEs!) I began to take action to prevent another DVT. Taking an 81mg Aspirin every day, as well as being very cautious about the length of time I am sitting or lying immobile. For my upcoming cross-country move, I will be riding in a car for a total of almost 20 hours (over two days). Extended travel like that is where DVTs strike most. These Jobst compression stockings will help keep the blood in my lower extremities flowing. This pressure, 30-40mmHg, is one of the higher compression strengths available, and is usually available only by prescription from your doctor (where I am located). My extensive experience with Jobst made me feel confident in my ability to choose the strengths I needed. *** READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY!!! *** Make sure that you google image search "JOBST STOCKING MEASUREMENT GUIDE" before you purchase -- the sizing is absolutely specific, and there are charts on the back of each package that will tell you what size you fall into. These are all available on google images when you search. Measure BOTH legs with a seamstress measuring tape/fabric measuring where the images indicate (widest part of ankles, widest part of calf, and for thigh highs, widest part of thigh) and write your measurements down for each leg. Then find which size you correlate to - you may be right between two sizes on one measurement on one leg, but not usually both. ***The sizing really is easy. They are NOT regular stockings though, they WILL be VERY TIGHT! That's the point!Another pro tip: DO NOT attempt to put these on like pantyhose or stockings. DO NOT BUNCH THEM UP TO THE TOE and then try to pull them on. By doing that, you are putting ALL of the compression strength in one band, and you will NOT be strong enough to pull against it. Leave the stocking out long, hold the opening wide with both hands, and then insert your foot as far as it will go. Then, try to shimmy it up your leg further by using a WIDE OPEN PALM (think like you're about to give a high five) and using the traction from your palm to slide the hosiery upward. DON'T try to pull up little pieces of fabric to pull with your finger tips! These are probably thick enough to stand up to that, but the regular hosiery design WILL run and tear from that. If the traction from your hands is not enough, go grab a rubber dishwashing glove (dry and new, obviously) and don those. Then do the same open-palmed shimmy. That should make it exponentially easier to put them on. The higher the strength (mmHg) the more difficult they will be to put on.To take them off, simply flip the top edge over and pull them straight down, turning them inside out as you pull. That's the easiest way. Then you can right side them when they are off.Anyway, JOBST stockings are absolutely, in my opinion, the #1 compression stocking on the market. We are extremely lucky that we can purchase strengths greater than 15-20mmHg here on Amazon! But if you are just starting, or just decided to purchase compression stockings on your own (not at the request of your doctor) definitely go back to the 15-20mmHg strength and try those first. 20-30mmHg is medium strength and 30-40mmHg is indicated frequently for patients with diagnosed venous problems, DVT, clotting, or post-surgical patients. So please do know your information when you buy them!Otherwise, these are the RELIEF line, not the "Real-looking hosiery" line - They are not designed to be pretty or look like pantyhose. The quality is EXCELLENT, the color (Beige) is a pretty standard caucasian light tan, the fabric is thick like tights, but woven because of the compression. There is no compression in the toes, for comfort and safety. The silicone dots at the top of the thigh highs are very 'sticky' and do a great job of keeping these in place. If your doctor has told you to purchase 30-40mmHg or high compression thigh-high stockings, these (or any Jobst stocking) are definitely the ones to purchase.

Unfortunately, you do need these.
I have chronic venous insufficiency and have struggle with issues stemming from that since my early 20s (spider veins, swelling, pain, etc). I have had vein ablation twice, and my doctor recommended I wear compression stockings 3-4 days of the week. Since my vein ablations went all the way up my leg to the groin, I like thigh high stockings as opposed to knee socks.Anyway, I have purchased other brands and thought they were fine, until I tried these. I was reluctant to buy because they are pricier than my others, but I used my FSA and unfortunately found they are in fact worth the money lol.The fabric on these is much softer, they are more comfortable to wear for my 12 hour shifts, and I’ve had no issues with them staying up. I used the size chart to pick my size and found it to be accurate. If you have vein issues and are on your feet (or sitting!) for long periods, do yourself a favor and get these.

mushed toes
I would recommend the toeless version. My daughter needed these, and they did work, but they mushed her toes so much she got an infection that we are still working to clear up.

Absolutely Amazing Comfort:
This is probably my 3rd review - ever - and I've been using Amazon for a minute. So, me taking the time to write a review means something... at least to me! :-) For years, I've been using a couple of hospital support stockings that were issued to me during a couple of stays. After years of wear and tear, they now look like homemade fishnets. Needless to say, they were not of high quality to begin with. Last week my cardiologist recommended JOBST. So, I ordered last week. Surprisingly I received my order yesterday - on the same day I received an e-mail telling me they had been shipped. Just like a kid on X-Mas morn, I couldn't wait to open the box and examine what was inside. To my surprise there was not 1 stocking... but 2... yes 2 stockings!!!! (I obviously missed this when I ordered). So, X-Mas really did come early. Decided to put them on after I took a shower... and man... pure bliss. I must have lost about 5lbs trying to get them on! But the struggle was and is by far worth it. Because after pulling them all the way up and letting the silicone beaded top on the inside nestle firmly against my upper thigh, (I know... TMI) I sighed with relief. My leg had never felt this good, even with the older support stocking! It felt revitalized! I stood up and the stocking STAYED UP!!!!!!!! I walked in the kitchen, and wifey was like, "Okay! Those are nice! They look comfortable!" I told her they were and that I was glad I had purchased, because my leg felt amazing. The pain was already starting to subside. I have one on today, and I feel no pain in my leg... no swelling. I will be purchasing a few more pair. Excellent purchase and well worth the money... even if it would have been just for one stocking as I originally thought.

Poor durability
I bought these compression stockings for medical use and followed all care instructions carefully. Unfortunately, after just one wear, a noticeable run appeared on one leg. I didn’t snag them on anything, and I only wore them for a few hours indoors. For the price, I expected better durability. Very disappointed with the quality. I would not recommend this product unless the manufacturer can address the issue. What’s worse is that I trusted the quality and already ordered 3 more pairs before I even got to wear the first one. If I had known they were this fragile, I wouldn’t have wasted my money. Really disappointed.
