Nyjer Wild Bird Food Seed Finch Twin Pack Sock Instant Feeder, 26 Ounce

Have a metal finch feeder. Was buying fancy Nyjer with crushed sunflower from a bird shop for a higher price point that the finches only ate the Nyjer seeds! For a city person this is a great price. There is always a passel of birds (13 on one feeder is the record), even went and got a second feeder. Thought I was going to go through 5 pounds in two months - nope... I'm now every month and even that is cutting it close. Very hungry, happy little birdies :)

Great quality seed. Clean appearance, very little visible debris, if any. It attracts a lot of small birds like the reddish purple house finches, gold finches, chickadees, etc... so it's doing what it was intended to do. The eight pound bag seems to be a good size, lasting a while but not so long as to spoil so I'd call it a good value.

Easy to hang, functional and the birds love it during the winter! Warning: they like it so much, the well filled socks only last a week! LOL! As a bonus, the squirrels seem to ignore the seed.

Pros: The finches love it. House finches, goldfinches. Invasive european starlings don't touch it. Last Spring, I reported seeing Ruby Crowned Kinglets, but I think they were just female goldfinches [roll eyes]. Getting smart, I quickly switched from purchasing prefilled thistle socks to getting bags of thistle and socks separately. Procedure only requires a funnel. This is my first BIG bag of thistle, which was placed in a carton with a couple of other items, but included no packing material to fill the empty spaces and absorb shock. So the bag popped open during shipment. During shipment, someone felt the need to wrap additional clear packing tape over most of the box; apparently someone noticed unidentifiable contents leaking out. I hope Kaytee won't be penalized for Amazon's poor shipping.

All the varieties of Finches love this seed! I have 3 different style feeders, each with different seed and this one is always empty first! I’ve seen up to six finches both perched on the tray and hanging on the mesh eating this seed! Will order again! Just be aware when taking out of the Amazon box as the bag had a small split on arrival which I patched with tape, then opened top and poured in a big jar for use. Took away one star only for cut in bag on arrival.

I’ve had to order these several times. The finches ate them completely empty in a short time. The seed must be a good quality seed. The bags hold up well. We will be ordering more for this coming winter.

We also have a ton of Sparrows who hang out, but they aren't attracted to the socks and I don't think the Finches would let them hang out there. I ordered and received 2 2-packs of this product. They arrived exactly as they should. I've used this product before. Just bought one 2-pack in a garden store while waiting for these to arrive because the Gold Finches are out in force! They enjoyed those socks and ate vigorously from them. Sometimes, you couldn't even see the sock for the birds feeding on them! However, so far, each sock I've put out from this order seems to not please the Gold Finches. They pick at it but the sock stays nearly untouched for a week or so! I've had to dump out the seed to the ground (the Quail have no problem eating that up and neither to the Grossbeaks) and refill them with the Nyger seed I already have on hand then the Gold Finches go crazy! What's up with the seed that comes with them? They won't touch it! So, even though I love the sock method of dispensing the seed (I love it when they sliiiiiiide down the sock to feed!) because they are very durable, washable and reusable, but I'm concerned the seed is very old and rancid. It's the only thing I can think of why they aren't feeding on the seed that comes with the socks! I just refilled one this morning, after dumping its untouched contents on the ground and now, the Gold Finches are all over it! What's up with that?

I liked it, but the birds didn't go for it as I thought they would :(

The price is way too high....will not purchase at that price again.

Filled with niger, should be good although we haven't had our finches yet.

Got this item as I could not find Nyjer seed anywhere. It was a great price and was delivered quickly. The little birds love it.
