Firstly, five stars. This Teamaker is beautifully made, compact, nice to look at and makes splendid tea. It was bought to replace the third Swan Teasmade, which work well for two to three years and then start leaking. They also have a lit dial that you can't turn off and a second hand that ticks loudly. Who needs a second hand in bed? Well, yes, okay, there's always that. Anyway, being our 70s, wrinkly and showing signs of decrepitude, going downstairs to make tea in the morning, and then staggering up the stairs with two sloshing cups isn't an option. Back to the Sage Teamaker. The following comments apply only to the Sage STM700SHY Tea Maker Compact. There are several variants of the teamakers that are manufactured by Sage. I think the Amazon guy who wrote the description needs to get his act together. He seems to have cut and pasted text from various sales literature and got it all round his neck. Several reviews point out bad descriptions and no attempt seems to have been made to correct it. Firstly, there is no delayed timer. You can't set the Teamaker to turn on in the morning and wake you with a nice cup of tea. If you set it up the night before, as we do, you only need to push one button to start the cycle. So don't buy it to replace a Teasmade if you want it to start automatically. Two other incorrect facts. It's 1600 watts, not 2000 as in the spec. Also, it says it's dishwasher safe. Yeah, right. Nothing like putting an electric kettle in the dishwasher. It'll come out beautifully clean but there'll be a huge flash when you turn it on! But let none of this put you off. It makes wonderful tea and the first couple of times you use it, you'll stare in absolute wonderment as the tea basket descends creepily into the hot water and after steeping, rises dramatically to complete the cycle. This wears off but you're left with a super teamaker, so enjoy.

Great device makes a perfect cup of tea I like the strength selector brews to your own strength The lid keeps popping off the tea leaf basket I would have designed the lid to be screwed on with the loop attached to the lid. Basket redesign to fit lid that would cure the problem

Revised this after using it for a while: The unit works well to create consistent cups of tea and is easy to clean. Press the Keep Warm button *before* starting the tea-making and it will keep the tea warm. I'd have liked this to be the default option rather than having to press the button, it should be on automatically and you could press it to switch it off! Nonetheless, it's a great unit and I find making tea without it a complete chore now! 2nd revision: I've maked this down a point after using this a more of a kettle, the lid doesn't make a perfect seal at the handle side and as a result, steam escapes onto the handle when the kettle is boiling/boiled. I discovered this by almost burning my hand on it. The lid is a touch poorly designed and can even go on not completely lined up which then exaggerates the steam problem. I have noticed that some people have commented in other reviews about suspected "rust" on the base plate. I believe these are actually tea stains which are referred to in the accompanying paperwork. I have been scrubbing the unit and the stains come off but it's far better to use a cleaner designed for that instead of scrubbing/scratching the plate. I got some Astonish https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002SPDPRU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00 and used that, the whole thing came up spotless.

Make awesome team. It is brilliant. Sometimes it is moody though as it may not work. The taste and flavoring of the tea it make is simply superb. Worth every cent spent on it. Bought it for my wife and she loves he tea made by it. It was liked so much that I ended up buying another one for a friend (so I have bought two of these to date).
