Food for Thought on these Bruntmor Dutch Ovens
I have to say these Bruntmor 5 Qt. Cast Iron Dutch Ovens with Domed Skillet lids are a wonderful invention. The design of the lid being able to be used as a skillet is fantastic! They are heavy, nice looking and come pre-seasoned. I still added some organic canola oil to mine to give it a very glossy top coat. I did not worry about having to put it in the oven to season it. These are already pre-seasoned and was able to just quickly put a top coat of seasoning on it without worrying about having to take the time to put it in the oven with drip trays, etc. to first time season it which is really nice!I am a vegetarian and purchased one of these specifically for my Tofurky cooking, but it will also be used for other vegetarian only cooking. I was using one of my silicone cookie sheet mats as a lid over my casserole dish to cook Tofurky or lasagna in the oven before I purchased this. I will multi task it for lasagna and many other dishes for myself and my spouse. I bought cast iron so I can also use it on my outdoor grills to get a wood smoked taste as I do this sometimes. My spouse was inspired to want to cook biscuits in it on our grill to see what the wood smoked (we use trimmings/prunings from our trees for the wood so we know our wood is ethically sourced.)I am very pleased also as I have been unable to make my Indian style Naan bread that I love, as the other device I was using to make it in was just too small for this and I like to have lots to freeze for later. I can stack lots of Naan bread in this and I look forward to making more homemade Naan bread with it. It’s also good used as a large dough riser, which I had also needed, especially for my homemade soft pretzel making. The multipurpose skillet lid of course is very handy, and my spouse and I can also use it outdoors to place our cooked wood fired pizza on as we make another to keep it warm.So why did I give it just 4 stars? Only because the booklet that came with it emphasizes cooking with meat/fish and as a vegetarian for ethical reasons it is tough to see that as I worry that others who buy these are encouraged to be desensitized to their eating of meat or fish if they are NOT vegetarian. Also the picture I saw advertising it showed what looked like grilled breasts of slaughtered/murdered chickens in one of them. :(I’ll never forget one time a person told me that a relative I had never met must have been very bad as he was crying so often when he prayed. For all I know he might just have been lamenting that he was not yet a vegetarian. I know I cried many tears feeling bad about when I used to eat meat and fish, crab, etc. some years back, and I am certain many others did also about when they were not vegetarians. The prayers that were traditionally prayed before eating were often so wrong, giving thanks for a meal of meat and fish? That is very sick when a bit of thought is given to it and one realizes it is not kind in any way and barbaric, it is as if we were thanking God for causing us to behave in such a barbaric way that animals were slaughtered to feed us. God of course is only kind and would not punish us for this but must have been very sad each time God heard one of those thanks prayers in regards to a non vegetarian meal and was doing the very best to encourage those who were not to be vegetarians in a positive way.UPDATE 11/30/18This past Thanksgiving/Snacksgiving weekend I made some of my homemade stuffing. It is all vegetarian of course but it tastes like it has been “in the bird (turkey)” but thank goodness it has not, made with my homemade bread and baked in my dutch oven. What I found out that I did not realize prior about the versatility of cooking with cast iron indoors and out is that when I cook outdoors on my homemade ethical wood fire from my wood trimmings I get that nice wood smoked taste and since cleaning cast iron is so minimal, just a wipe/scrape and a quick re-seasoning with oil it holds that wood smoked flavor even when I cook in my indoor oven. This works great for pizza making and I recently made two great vegetarian Chicago Deep Dish style using my cast iron dutch oven and lid. It was so tasty I was inspired to realize that those incredibly delectable pizza bits and olive oil in the bottom of the pan that had to be scraped out could be used as one of my simple soup starters instead of being placed in my composter. So I improved further by saving my dutch oven scrapings to add to a soup pot.–Julie Sand

Such a versatile set!
Absolutely love this set. It’s so versatile. The color is beautiful and the skillet/lid is exactly the right size to sauté or brown ground meat. The Dutch Oven is roomy and both are easy to clean. The weight is substantial but not so heavy you would need to go to the gym to bulk up muscles to carry it! I will be buying the tagine next.

2 for 1 pot - love it!
This works great as a dutch oven, have already tried it for cooking a chicken, making beef stew and baking bread. Be prepared for super juicy meats and bread that has a symphony of crackle crust! The top works well as a skillet too - eggs and hashbrowns cooked up nicely. After making the stew my wife was skeptical of the cleanup because the white sides looked like they had baked on stew...however this just wiped clean. It is our new favorite for cooking.

Overpriced
Did everything the note asked me to do when it came to baking and sealing for the first time. My cast iron pot is still VERY sticky to this day so I can’t even bring myself to try and take away all the stickiness after trying to oil it up and bake it up to “seal”, why can’t they come already pre sealed and ready to go? Haven’t used it yet due to all the stickiness. Such a shame.

Wish I had one years ago
I have enjoyed baking/cooking with this Dutch Oven. It is heavy, but then it is cast iron. I have only had it a couple of weeks, but I have made bread and stews in it and everything has turned out great.
