When I first saw the DK logo on the book cover, my heart sank...We are all familiar with the logo on the most basic books on history per subject. However, when I opened the cover and took my first glimpse through- I was thrilled. All of history opens before your eyes, in a nice time line format.Everything from warfare, medicine, famous Kings, Queens, writing, inventions, religions...the list goes on. The photography is brilliant! Being an Art Historian I appreciate the value of a well presented work- this is it. If you need to own just one book on history from the dawn of mankind to the present, get this..You will not be disappointed. This is great for everyone from young students, right up to scholars who may need a brush up on a particular area of history they are not as familiar with.

If you want to know the history of the world, from the earliest known era, right up to modern times, then this book is for you. This book covers the entire subject with utter brilliance. Beautifully illustrated, using time line sections, every region is covered. The appendix covers the history of each country individually too. No home should be without this book. It can be used by children and adults of all ages. A truly captivating history book...

History, The Definitive Visual Guide :From the Dawn of Civilization to the Present Day I received the book in best condition thanks to the carefully wrapped protection against shock and wetness. Needless to say that it is an extremely interesting book with graphics, texts and photos, you can learn from, alone, and besides that they are of aesthetical value. I am looking forward to the next edition in a few years, that will leave me surely as glad as this one does.

Superb book in a consistently excellent oeuvre from DK. Attractive and with just the right level of detail for second level students, this will bolster interest as well as knowledge. I highly recommend this and DK's other visual dictionaries.

Fantastic book with a wide variety of historical events, it even inlcudes historical dates that I didn't think the author would have put in :)

The book is huge, and is true to the description. It is a massive book, quite comprehensive with overall history. There are plenty of pictures, and I haven’t come across a single one that looks low quality or is a duplicate image that I’ve seen in another book. I loved the timeline introduction of each chapter, giving a concise overview of each period within. Highly recommended if you love history, or want to use this as teaching material. If you have kids in a public school, or just think it’s important to teach them about history and want to give them more to learn (as they don’t teach them much of anything like this about human history these days) then I recommend this book!
