Incredible!
Something so small can produce such great sound! Got the FULL Sony 5.1 Surround but costly to operate. I mean ~2500W...nice, you really 'live' the music! This li'l dock 'll do it for 10W! Granted can't feel da base in yer feet BUT hi's and lo's are well represented evidenced when I answer texts. Can FEEL the bass when I pick it up to perform other iPhone functions which are not interrupted when listening! Kinda Spartan, ie no remote but does have a battery pack (4 AA's not incl) which enables its mobility! Searched many, ie Sony...$249!, but figured would try a Phillips fer ~$65 bucks--good move!Naw!...wouldn't replace muh Surround w/it but fer background? While watchin' the game? Nice! Good value, good price, good listenin'! Diddit 'gain Amazon! ☑️14Jul'14 Spoke w/Phillips today, re: same no response w/dock as another buyer had indicated--sound only directed by iPhone not Dock. Appears you must introduce iPhone to radio cable first (in earphone hole) apparent defaults in dock mandate this! If not, only get 'tinny' iPhone volume only! But when you touch bases w/default barrier--works GREAT! Give it a try! ☑️

Works great -- but not if your iPod/iPhone is in a case
I bought this for my husband for his birthday, so he could use it with his new iPod Touch (his old speaker dock works only with the older iPod Classic). This speaker dock is very small, easy to use, and will be great for listening to music out on the deck (or on vacation -- the size makes it very portable). The sound is very good -- my husband really likes it.But -- and it's a BIG but -- the only way to get the iPod (or iPhone) to attach properly to the speaker is to remove its case. And that's just ridiculous. The case my husband uses on his iPod is very thin -- just a protective bit of rubber to keep the iPod safe in case he drops it. But the iPod will not seat properly on the speaker connection unless the case is removed. And those cases are annoying to remove -- no one wants to have to do it on a regular basis. My husband does like this unit, and he has decided to keep it, but we both agree it would be a much better product if it didn't require removal of the iPod's case every time you want to use it. Overall, it's a good product -- just be aware of the case issues.

Great Dock... Just Couldn't Use it With a Case On Without Modification
UPDATE: Amazon's trade-in program rejected this dock and sent it back to me on the grounds that the connection were broken. Upon receiving it, I plugged it up, took my iPhone 5S out of the case, and the dock worked fine. I assume they tried to connect a phone that was in a case. HOWEVER, since I had my dock back, I decided to modify the dock to so that it works with my phone in its case and now I use this dock every night. The modification was simply to pull the plastic surrounding the lightening connector off the phone base. I have a very thin Apple leather case and the phone just fits with this modification. There are metal protrusions on each side of the lightening port that would not allow a thicker case, such as an Otterbox, to work. I've attached a photograph of my modified dock. Eventually I plan to put some kind of shrink wrap around it so that it's not so exposed. Two peculiarities I've noticed about this dock since I've been using it. First, when the phone is docked, it only plays MUSIC through the dock speakers. Things like alarm clocks, ringtones, and alerts DO NOT play through the dock. I have been able to play music off the iOS music app as well as Amazon's music app for iOS, I have not tried any other music players. My alarm clock app with sleep sounds does not play through this dock, though I downloaded a couple more that do. It seemed hit or miss.Having used my old dock as an alarm clock for years, I thought this was terrible—until my phone alarm went off the other morning and it didn't give me a near-heart attack from sheer volume. Also, I've noticed you can leave a 3.5mm cable connected to the auxiliary input on the dock, and when you dock your phone, the auxiliary input stops and the lightening port becomes the dock's audio input source. This is a change from my previous dock, as I had to remove the 3.5 mm auxiliary input cable before the dock would play music off the 30-pin source.I've also been completely unable to play music off my phone when running this dock on battery power. The volume buttons light up but the music comes only from my phone. Not a big deal, as I now have a bluetooth speaker to take with me when I go outside, but I do miss the ability to pack my dock outside the way I did my old 30-pin version.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I've used the 30-pin version of this dock with my iPod and iPhone 4S for years. One of the selling features of the 30-pin dock was its design that allowed it to work with the Apple Bumper on the phone--something no other dock I tried would allow. So, when I got my 5S recently, I purchased this lightening version expecting the same experience I was already enjoying with my old dock. The Good: Nobody will ever mistake this for a Bose, but it pumps out a loud, clear sound. With the proper EQ, it is astonishingly good for such a small dock. The ability to load 4 AA batteries into the unit and take it with me wherever I go has been awesome. It makes a great alarm clock and a great speaker for when I'm grilling out.The Bad: I have a leather Apple case on my 5S, which is not a thick case at all. No matter how much I tried, I couldn't get the 5S do actually dock without taking it out of the case. It looked like the base around the lightening dock should recess, like it might be spring loaded, but I never could get it to budge. I love the look of this unit, I like the sound quality a lot, but I can't justify keeping a dock that won't take my phone with the case. The Ugly: I just left my Philips dock at UPS. It's on its way back as a trade-in. Truly a shame, but since the unit has apparently been discontinued by Phillips, it looks like I will either adapt my new phone to my old dock or get a bluetooth speaker instead.

Sounds great and looks great, too...
I bought this for my wife to use around the house and she loves it. It is the perfect size to be easily moved around and not take up tons of counter space, but it puts out some great sound. The styling is pleasing, too. When it comes to something like this I try to not be very picky on the sound since you can't expect a small unit like this blow you away with wide ranges and crystal clear tones like you would with a full stereo set-up. For what I want it to do it is perfect. My wife is the primary user, but I've used it several times myself and very much enjoyed the experience. Volume controls are straight forward, and the phone/ipod is nicely supported so using the touch interface to browse music is easy to do.I would completely recommend this to people looking for an iPhone/iPod speaker dock.

Can't hear music through the static!
Could not get a clear music signal from the speakers without tremendous amount of static, which makes the docking station unusable. Sounded like when you have a radio that's not fully tuned in, except that this was an mp3 and not radio that i was trying to listen to.I was using an iPod Nano, 7th generation, which the description mentions as being a compatible device. Note that even if the music sounded great, because the lightning connector on the nano is on one side, rather than in the center like the pictured iPhone, the nano is off-center, which looks ridiculous. I could've gotten past that if it sounded great, but that certainly didn't make me want to try a replacement instead of a refund.
